  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I was down at my folks last weekend and my Mom was doing here normal "I found these and thought you might have a use for them" thing ... only this time she was right. She handed me two of my great grandfather's pipes! I'm not sure what they are as the cases for them don't match the pipes and there are little to no markings on them, but this pushed me over the edge about getting into restoring pipes. The work that Dave has been doing was what initially made me interested so I've been doing a bunch of research and ordered a reamer. Just looking on fleaBay to find some pipes to practice on. Once I find those and get the rest of the supplies I need I'm really looking forward to trying this out. My Mom was really excited that I was going to do this so I want those two pipes to come out right.

Thanks to everyone here who has broadened my horizons not only in cigars but into the world of pipes and beyond. You all rock!

Here are a few pics... The smaller one has "Cambridge imported briar" stamped on the side if the bowl and a small crown on the stem. It's a smooth finish on the bowl. The larger one only has "imported briar" stamped on the bottom of the bowl. It's a rustic finish on the bowl.

could we get pix later, with better lighting, and also down into the bowl? those just may need a superficial clean up. and, unless you really want them to shine (which can be done later), may not need much at all to turn them back to service.

also, VERY cool that you scored an heirloom, and i do hope you get them up and running for yourself. o)

the rim and exterior should clean with warm water and elbow grease (maybe some murphy's oil soap). salt treat the chamber, then ream. alcohol and pipe cleaners for the stem's airway.

hell, you could possibly press them into service immediately, were you so inclined.
