OK guys. I like beer. My everyday beers are miller light, and reds apple ale. I have tried a few craft beers( can't remember names) but didn't like them. I just bought a 4 pack of Kentucky Bourbon barrel aged ale. Can any one recommend a few beers? I'm going tomorrow to see if I can find old chub nitro, and a few others I've seen on here.

Dale

I also drink Stella? And I can't remember the name but the most interesting man in the world drinks! Lol

IMO Kentucky Bourbon barrel aged ale is pretty bad. But everyone who drinks miller light loves it....
Start with
Founders, 3floyds, Lagunitas Bells, Deschutes to name a few.

There are a couple things you can try. I would stay with a less hoppy, more malty beer to start out with, possibly a nut brown ale. I haven't had a Samuel smith that I haven't hated. Their nut brown is solid, but I think their oatmeal stout is the best they brew.

One of my go-to beers, though, is the Spaten Optimater. Easy drinker, good cold/cool/warm and higher abv (think its a 7ish, but you don't taste it). Speaking of German beers... Oktoberfests are great to start with. Malty without being too heavy. Spaten, Franconia, or Weihenstephaner Festbier are all great beers. I used to love Sam Adam's octoberfest until recently, it seems as they've tweaked the recipe and it wasn't as good the past couple of years.

Yes, agreed. Spaten makes good beer. And most Octoberfest are good, my favorite has been from Paulaner. Used to really like the one Sam Adams put out, but like Ramza said, it isn't as good lately. This year it was a bit sweet. I like Honkers Ale from Goose Island Brewing.

Find a good pub and start drinking flights of various beers. Not sure if you can take notes in untapped or not but having a way to take simple notes is always nice

Speaking of sam adams their seasonal samplers are a good way to try sone different beers without dropping to much cash. Magic Hat also has some decent ones too. There's a lot of real good beer being brewed here in SC. the white thai by Westbrook is pretty good they make a nice IPA also, IPA's can be tough to transtion to from miller lite and the likes. Careful though craft beer can be another slippery slope.

Some of these may get some laughs from more experienced beer drinkers, but here's a list of beers I regularly enjoy or have found to be really enjoyable for occasional drink. I've been venturing more into the craft beer department lately, but still go back to some of these for that satisfying, know it's going to be good drink..

The first beer I had I probably "enjoyed" first go around: Dundee Honey Brown. - I still pick it up semi-regularly, between trying new things when I grab some beers. It's fairly smooth, not too heavy and doesn't taste too watery to enjoy.

Duck Rabbit Milk Stout: Really the first stout type of beer that presented more than just burnt, heavy flavors to me. Coffee shone through very nicely. I was told Left Handed Brewings Milk Stout Nitro was even better, but haven't gotten around to trying it yet.

Just had some Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale that was enjoyable also. Perhaps not as "crafty" as some other Pumpkin ales..it's the first and so far only one I've tried.

Shock Top Honey Bourbon Cask Wheat was alright.

Leinenkugel - Honey Weiss is good.. The Oktoberfest is also pretty good. The Creamy Dark Lager - it's the one I've had lately that really makes me want more. Was very, very nice without being too heavy like stouts can be to me. Can't find it locally yet in anything other than the Explorers pack. :argh:

As one final note, if you want to try something a bit different: Wells Banana Bread beer is interesting. It's light, malty and sweet. If you like Banana Bread, this could be something to mix up some flavors once in a while.

This may be a bit much for someone just getting into craft beer, but Midnight Monk by terrapin is really good. It's a black IPA but not to hoppy. It's pretty complex you get the citrus notes like a normal IPA, then roasted malt notes kind of like a stout.

To me, cigars are like beer. Like what you drink, drink what you like. I frequent leinenkugel during the summer, Dundee Honey is my bring a 12 pack to a party beer, and the banana beer is great (however I find they need to carbonate it more, the oils tend to make it flat).

Samplers are your friend. If you have a Total Wine or a Bevmo near by they usually have a make your own six pack set up and at least out here Total Wine has beer sommeliers to help guide you. However I would start out with some lighter body beers like many of the English not the American Pale Ales, as they tend to be verry hoppy( not that there is anything wrong with that). My faves are the Belgians some of witch will knock you out either with the alcohol content or the wild yeast flavors.

Sweet. I will look for them. Also just finished my first bottle of the Kentucky Bourbon aged and its awesome!
See what I mean!!! Lol
Holy cow, that was awesome....

And, for what it is worth, I agree with JFire. I am not the biggest fan of Barrel-aged stuff... although that KBS Eric brought to the Ventura Herf in 2013 was pretty nice.

Went to the biggest store that carrys beer near me. There was a awesome guy that helped me out. Answered all my questions. He told me that I can't get 3 Floyd's beer in sc, they don't sell it in sc for some reason. And I'm too far south to get the sweet baby Jesus.. lol but I picked up a few that I saw on here. And I got 3 that the guy recommended. His were the lion stout, the IPA, and the 6 pack. We shall see....

I see it was already mentioned, but if you're getting into beer try to visit Westbrook. It is located in Mt Pleasant. You can sit down and get a few flights of what they have on tap and see where your tastebuds take you. Also take the beer tour, not only is it fun but you can find out more about what you just tried and liked and that may lead you into what you're looking for in a brew.
