A friend of mine called me tonight to find out if I wanted to join him at a bar that a local brewery was having a tap night. For a bonus, the bar was next door to the cigar shop so we could stop in after a few drinks for a smoke. After good beer and conversation we headed over to the smoke shop for a stick. Once arriving at the smoke shop we were informed we only had 20 minutes until they closed (contrary to their website) since it was the off season and the only reason they were so busy was the local pipe club was meeting.
Pipe club!? I didn't even know there was a pipe club that met in my area. So I picked up a few smokes (two Anejo 46's) and then commenced to fill my pipe with Three Nuns (I'm not lighting a cigar with only 20 minutes to smoke). Once there was a break in the conversation I butted in and introduced myself and my friend. Come to find out these guys meet on the first Thursday of every month at this smoke shop only 15 minutes from my home (this month was 2nd Thursday due to New Years). After finishing my bowl I was told to help myself to any of the tobacco they had sitting on the table. I tried some SG Skiff Mixture one of the guys had brought (tasty baccy). The conversation was great, they were more than generous with their tobacco, and the tobacconist let us stay an hour after closing. It really was an unexpected great night I ended up spending with fellow BOTL. I can't wait until the first Thursday in Feb.
