  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Start trying out a bunch of non-aromatics. There are English, Virginia, Virginia Perique, latakia, burley, and more.

I'm a fan of the Frog Morton blends from McClelland, Klondike Gold flake from Brigham, Meat Pie by Drew Estate. And more that escape my memory at the moment.

Go to your B&M and buy some non aros from the bulk jars and try them out.

You can also explore tobaccoreviews.com to see what you would be interested in trying.

Try Samuel Gawith's Chocolate Flake and Brown Flake, GL Pease Barbary Coast and Haddos Delight, Peterson Universal Flake. Ashton 109 is an excellent intro to Virginia only blends.

Any recommendation for a new pipe smoker that is coming over from a cigar background? One of the biggest surprises for me with pipe smoking is that pipe tobacco seems super light compared to cigars. It's light to the point that I will occasionally mistakenly inhale and it doesn't bother me at all. With cigars i'm typically prefer medium to med-full at the most. Is the world of pipe smoking essentially very light smoke? I think I just have to reset my expectations with pipe smoking. So far I have tried several English house blends from both UpDown Cigars and Iwan Ries in Chicago along with the Drew Estate Grand Central Station.

The 2 pipe tobacco's that really got me hooked on pipes were frog morton an Mississippi river. After trying those I've been more into pipes than cigars.

@KWilliams, it's great isn't it especially with a bit of age on it. I have 18 tins from 2007. It just may be my all time favorite but...there's FVF, Best Brown Flake, StoneHaven well, it's Haddo's is one of my favorites
