  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

OK guys I bought some parogon ii wax. It doesn't seem to give the high shine I'm looking for. Is the best way to get a good shine with a with wax and a buffer?

I have never waxed a pipe before - ever. So take this with a grain of salt.

You take a Dremel with a nice soft felt pad and have at it with your wax, and I am willing to bet dollars to donuts (short of applying too much wax), you'll have it as shiney as you want it in no time. Go slow. Good luck!

I use solid block of Carnauba Wax (you can pick it up on Amazon) and a buffing wheel attached to my drill as I don't have a buffer. After using the buffer I will hand polish with a soft cloth, sometimes while smoking it the first time to warm the wax.

The above example pic was taken before the hand polish, so it will brighten up even more. It just happened to be one I had handy.

The dremel would probably be ok to use on the briar, but I would not use it on stems. Even at the lowest RPM a dremel will spin fast enough to damage a stem.

Don't use a Dremel as the RPMs are way too high for buffing and polishing wood.

Home Depot/Lowe's/Harbor Freight... all sell a set of muslin buffing wheels around $10. Attach them to your variable speed drill as @JustTroItIn shows and go slowly.

Put a very then film of Carnuba wax on the pipe and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes so that it hardens. You can tell when't ready as it will get a bit cloudy. Then turn the drill on a low speed and start buffing away.
