  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So, I have a cigar journal that I purchased some time ago. Basically, I use it to review the cigars and keep a record of the brands and versions of the cigars I've smoked in the past and a mess of other details. I only write down and review a cigar that I haven't put into the journal yet. It's actually set-up quite nicely and sadly no longer available on-line by the person who created them.

Now enough of me derailing my post, I need to get back on topic. Here's the question to all of you if you choose to read on from here....do any of you currently own a Pipe Smoker's journal???? I saw one on-line and it's been really bothering me to make the leap and get one for well, my pipe baccy reviews. It looks like a really nice book and being I already have a cigar journal, I figured it might be something cool to sit back with and share my personal reviews of the baccy. And would probably be a good piece of information for future purchases and references.

Funny you mention that, I was thinking about that the other day. I used a Moleskin to review my cigars for years. Then I wanted something faster and easier, so I bought the 33 Cigar series.

When I got into the pipe, I thought I might want to journal the tobaccos as well but... well, you know what? No. I think I'll try to simply enjoy the pipe and keep all the tracking to a minimum.

I have no idea why I feel this way - it goes against my nature. Maybe I am looking for a different experience. Or maybe... it's just that you haven't found the right journal for me to want yet lol!! :)

I find it difficult as it is for my cigars and feel like I can't give an honest review. BUT for the winter, I'm at my local B&M and not home in the yard where I can pace myself and have peace and quiet. So, I haven't been writing in it or I've done it and never finish. Which means I have to go smoke another cigar. I have a few that I need to re-review.

I kind of enjoy not reviewing my pipe baccy, but I thought it would be something interesting and maybe a little easier than cigar reviewing.

I really like the idea of keeping a journal but I know that after the initial excitement of doing it wears off, I'll let it slide. For several months I kept immaculate records of which cigars I had in my humidor but then I fell behind and could never keep up.
I have no doubt that I'd do the same with a pipe journal.
But I agree with SeaGar - instead of getting all anal retentive over the pipe hobby (like I do with everything else) I am enjoying just doing it. No tracking of stuff other than a quick note about which tobaccos have become my favorite and which ones I'll never buy again. Beyond that...

I'm in the same boat. I fell off the deep end with keeping track of the different cigars I've smoked. And I began recording a few half way through, then stopped because I was distracted or never got to really enjoy it. I want to follow through with it if I'm going to do it. But I have to agree and say it's really kind of nice to not record anything and just enjoy the baccy in the bowl. ANd pretty much just remembering which baccy I enjoyed so I can buy more.
