  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

OK so I'm new to pipe smoking and have already gotten bit by the bug pretty bad :)

I picked up maybe 8oz's in samplers this week and jarred them all up and threw them in an old coolidor i had (humidity beads removed)
The problem now is that the entire thing smells like nightcap. I thought these jars were airtight? They are definitely leaking "smell".

Even my Va/Per tins smell smokey now like the nightcap and EMP. Any suggestions or does it even matter? I'd hate for the other stuff I have jarred up to take on the flavor of those strong english blends...

Thanks for pushing down another slope people!

Now to check out that newbie sampler thread....

Any advice? Would hate to have to separate out different blends, but DAMN that cooler stinks of english blend now. Everything else in there smells like it..... You think this is a problem? Just leave it all in there to marinate together?

You have to use Mason jars with the good sealing lids....you know
they work because every time you go to open one you will need to unscrew the ring and actually pry the top off....it will often make a light pop sound when you do it. I use them and I can't smell a hint of the tobacco aroma when they are closed. Like this:

My jars are sitting on my dresser in a cool, darker area of my room. No problems so far. And I don't think I'll see any issues anytime soon. Just like the guys mentioned above. Get those ball jars (find them at walmart) and make sure your seals are hand tight.

Check the lids and the jar lip for bits of tobacco. As long as the seal is clean it should hold in the aroma, but sometimes little bits of tobacco get stuck to the lid and interrupt the seal.

Forgot about that too. Thanks for picking up on this. Also, another member mentioned to get a funnel as well when you fill up. I had 11 jars to fill with and each one had to do carefully because well...I was funnel-less...until I got nuked today. LOL. But, back on track here, funnels seem cheap enough to aquire and just get a wide one. It makes your life a lot easier than having to carefully knock baccy out of the nicely wrapped Ziploc bags.

Yep that's what I'm using, the half pint ball jars with wide mouth. The ones that don't stack well.

It's heavy Latakia smell so I guess this is normal?

I guess I can find some shoe boxes and throw em under the bed? I just want to keep this stuff out of light, and there is a big ass window in my bedroom (only place that stays cool year round)

I wouldn't suggest under your bed though. What about a closet?

Yea I can throw em in the closet, that's where the cooler sits now. You think shoe boxes are the way to go then?

Just curious, why not under the bed?

It's just a personal preference. Especially with any glass products. I just wouldn't recommend doing it. But it's all your choice and in your hands what you want to do.
