Review: Warped Celestial Event Only Cigar
Size: 5 ½ x 45/46 (unconfirmed)
MSRP: N/A Warped Events Only
Date: 18th day of April, the year 2015…..
Smoking Environment: I’m at my local B&M (Edward’s Pipe Tobacco in Lakeland, FL), enjoying a quiet Saturday morning after a hectic work week. The usual banter between brothers is welcomed as a hearty meal to a weary traveler. As I mull over what new pipe tobacco selections Russ has displayed, I settle into my seat and begin my first notes on the review stick.
It’s a warm 75-76 inside, this is my first stick of the day and also my first smoke in about 36 hours. A fresh palate, 2 cups of coffee down, and a bottled water at the ready. Time to smoke.
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Factory/Manufacturer: Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A. (TABSA)
* Kyle is playing this one close to the chest (understandably so), but was able to tell me that these are Nicaraguan puros using 100% Aganorsa leaf out of Esteli.
Appearance/construction: Medium/light brown beautifully wrapped stick, with seamless construction. Clean and strong triple cap. Smooth wrapper with minimal tooth.
Aroma Pre-Light: Fresh pepper and fragrant cedar, hay.
Cold draw: A clean straight cut unleashes a fury of pepper, leather, cocoa and cedar.
Light: Toasted and quickly lit with “ol’ trusty,” the inline triple torch.
First impression: I must admit, I smoked two of these sticks already; days ago. Both were late in the day, after abusing my palate with greasy burgers and various other cigars and pipe tobacco. LISTEN TO ME. You owe it to yourself to smoke this after a light breakfast or with coffee in the morning, before you smoke anything else. Right from the first puff, I can already tell that this will be a distinctly different experience than the previous two sticks.
Detonation. I get an explosion of sweet and spicy red pepper, covered in creamy buttermilk deliciousness.
Aroma Post-Light: Cinnamon and brown sugar.
First Third: There is a distinct sweetness on the tip of my tongue, almost like sucking on a sugar cube, but only for the instant the smoke hits your tongue. The flavors then immediately evolve to wheat, buttermilk (yeah, that’s a good ol’ homemade biscuit for you southern boys) and cocoa (yeah a chocolate filled croissant for you northern boys) then flow to the back of the palate, ramping up to cinnamon, leather, and sweet red pepper up through my nostrils in the retrohale. Incredibly complex profile, and a very ‘clean’ smoke as it is creamy but not sticky. The burn is mostly even, and self-correcting on any minor troughs or peaks. Light ash that falls around the ¾ inch mark… so don’t ash on yourself dumbass.
Second Third: Into the second third there is a noticeable transition away from the pepper spice, leaving a very mellow profile of fresh cedar, hay, bread, topped with a consistently buttery and creamy smoke. What’s interesting is the retrohale has turned away from pepper as well… but I can’t pin down exactly what the flavor is. I think, I THINK… it’s cinnamon and red apples. Really blissful. Tons of smoke, and really really mellow profile moving into the final third.
Final Third: Well into the final third and the pepper kicks back up with a mild heat. This third is smoking a bit faster than the first two thirds. The retrohale returned to a peppery sensation with a toasted cedar aroma/flavor, and the apple and cinnamon have subsided. Smoke production is still plentiful and burn even all the way to the nub.
Overall Impression/Final Notes: This stick is unlike any of the currently released Warped blends, as testified by the profile. The complexity and construction of the Warped Celestial is on par with Kyle’s superb blending and the TABSA factory. Sweet and spicy red pepper, wheat, buttermilk, cocoa, sugar, cinnamon, leather, cedar, hay, and apples culminate in a profile with mountainous difference from the florals, fruits, and honey that we have become accustomed to. I’m hoping that Kyle gets some events on the books around the nation to get some widespread experience with this blend. Truly worth every penny you’ll spend at the events upping your box count, hahaha! Enjoy, brothers.

Author’s Note: As always, I welcome any constructive criticism so that my reviews can continue to grow in strength and depth. I will try my best to review sticks that have not been previously reviewed here and that are generally “available,” or may become available. As a service to my brothers, I intend to write with as much detail as I can muster, and with an honest opinion. However, it is only MY opinion, so please try a stick before you buy a box if you have any intention of being fiscally responsible with this beloved affliction for fine tobacco that we all have. Also, all cigars are kept humidified at 68% unless otherwise noted. Thanks for reading!
