The only caveat is the tobacco can't be too moist. Give a little drying time and it's foolproof.

This method does lead to a looser pack but a little tamping then continuing adjusts for the density. I get very extended smokes with this technique. It burns slow and cool for some reason.

Thats good b/c my bowl always burns to hot and i try to nurse it so it doesnt burn out so I don't have to relight normally.

I have seen men do it this way in my past with great success! But it's never worked for me either. I just can't get a feel for packing it this way. That said, when I remember to twist when I do pack, I find it does burn more evenly.

When my bowl gets too hot, it's usually because my bowl is a packed a bit too loose. Sure slow down, but try giving it a tamp and see if that doesn't cool things down a bit.
