OK guys I've seen a few pipes that have metal covers over the bowls. Really like them. I've found one on etsy but not sure about it yet. Can someone tell me what that design is called and any makers that don't cost a insane amount? Thanks
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.
I found they really were smoking here in windy KS.Are those covered useful?
I'm getting very good at resisting that siteI think @Griz has a fishing vest pipe. He must like it because he has a hard time staying off of Boswells site on Thursdays.![]()
You can put a wind cap on most any of the pipes you have.Going to bump this one....
So, I've seen the wind caps on the pipes for sale at Boswell's. Been resisting on getting one, although they've been on my radar and it seems like JM makes them a little more frequently and they're in my budget. Now I'm assuming you take them off when you need to relight and tamp?? Or is there a special way that's hidden in the cap?? I do some dockside fishing and crabbing and need to smoke or dip when I'm doing such activities to keep me entertained waiting to pull up a trap or get a bite on the line. Although, I'd probably never lean over the dock or over a boat with my pipe.....
thanks for the link. You can put a wind cap on most any of the pipes you have.

Now that you mention it I understand why my outside smoke had such a hot bowl...I had my first pipe in the wind the other day and really could have used one of these.
You just can't stop it burning, bowl gets ridiculous hot and taste is sour.
Wind cap would no doubt be a good idea if you smoke out and about.
During the day you feel the heat of the bowl but smoke a bowl in the wind at night and you'll be horrified at the constant glowing cherry. Now that you mention it I understand why my outside smoke had such a hot bowl...
