On our way to Red Flag at Nellis AFB NV, ca. 1986:

We maintenance folks flew out on the KC-10 that refueled our jets en route. They were nice enough to let us go back to the boom box in small groups to watch and take pictures. The little telescope-looking thingy on the left wing (your right) was one of my systems.
With a nice old sidewinder on it's left stations ! Nice pic!

My dad was a B-52 pilot. I remember him flying Red Flag every year when I was a kid.

I have exactly one old Army picture on this phone, let me post it.

Stinger team chief, 97 or 98, on top of a mountain in Hawaii that I spent three or four hours walking up with half my body weight on my back.

Cuban sticks from the Britts ... miss being able to buy these daily.

Afghan herf...

Our winter was pretty cold...

Sleeping selfies...

Turning in expended rounds was a pain in the ... Damn TCNs would always find live arounds and kick us out.

The most risky walk to take a dumb during the snow... fell so many times.

And then the worst part when we actually got to the head... when the last idiot who slept walk to the shitter didnt close the door.

You know us California boys dont mess with snow..

My last Graf was in 95
"Last Graf" was like being a senior in high school. Second only to short timers syndrome. I was in 1/27FA in Babenhausen. Did more damn Grafs than i care to remember. Turned 21 there as a matter of fact, not that it really matter in Germany. Been drinking legally since i got in country at 19. I do miss the bier and Doner Kebabs.

In 2007 I had an opportunity to go and be the program manager for a big infrastructure upgrade there. I turned the job down. When asked why I said " 12 years ago I wrote 'last Graf' on a latrine wall and you guys are not about to make me a liar!".

I was in 5/2 ADA in Bamberg. Spent a lot of time there myself.

Great thread, thanks for sharing and thank you all for your service. I can't imagine what it's like over there and the things you guys have seen. Y'all are much braver and crazier than I.

LOL. You're a man of your word. We can both feel old knowing that both our bases no longer exist. At least Bamberg made it until 2014.
