  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

No clue what I'm doing..

.. but I need more pipes. Lol

Have been upping my pipe game the past week or so, but I only have one pipe at the moment that was gifted to me by a friend. Really love that pipe and not wanting it to sour, I need to add some to my collection. So, I have been trolling on Ebay this morning and came across this. Can anyone tell me if this is a solid deal for this or is something wrong?

I'd say pass. Since the only nomenclature is "Made in London, England" and doesn't have the label of any Dunhill second brands, I would say the buyer is just trying to get more money out of it. My gut tells me it's just a basket pipe from a nameless factory in London, England. It could end up being a great smoker, just don't pay too much "Dunhill premium" for it.

Yeah, looks like there may be some solid pipes in there, but I can't really tell and don't know what I'm looking at. haha
Restore's don't seem that bad. And IMHO, if you have the $50 and willing to meet him, I'd say jump on that deal and go for it!!!! Any pipes you don't like I'm sure you can get off your hands from fellow pipers here.

I would take the dallas deal with a grain of salt.He states he has Lots of 5-6 for $50,that tells me what is pictured may not be what he has now.And no cherry picking,he gets to put the group together.May be a great deal, and may be a waste of gas money.I'ld go look, just take your time and get pipes that you can line with for a little while at least.Get a few cobs to experiment with, great for everyday and yard work.

do the $50 deal one. It's only $50. Not a super risky purchase if it turns up soar. I'm sure you've blown $50 on things you've regretted before. I know I have and probably will again in the future. But who knows, maybe there will be a couple good ones in there.

I'd pass. I strongly suggest you get yourself several corncobs and maybe 1 rather simple meerschaum. That way you have a good rotation of pipes. If you are really enjoying the pipe then after about 6 months or so start looking for something you really want and replace the cobs one at a time. It's hard to go wrong with Stanwell or Peterson when you first start. They smoke well and won't break the bank. You should be able to buy 5 or 6 corncobs and the meerschaum for less than $125. Just my two cents.

No problem Alex. Make sure you are going to enjoy it. There are Peterson's out there for well less than $100 and some that are several hundred. Just start with the basic Peterson in a shape you like. I have many bespoke customs and a whole bank of Peterson's. I smoke the Peterson's and enjoy them as much as the custom carved pipes. BTW you can pick up some really good estate Peterson's very reasonably price on that devil site. Just clean them up and you are good to go. Prices are not so reasonable if you fall in love with the Pre-Republic or Patent era Peterson's are those are real collector pieces. Just start slow, get a few in rotation and enjoy yourself.

Went to Walmart to pick up a couple of Corn Cob pipes and they didn't have any... I seem to remember years ago Walmart selling pipes and supplies. I bought my first Dr. Grabow pipe there about 7 years ago. Guess Amazon it is..
