  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So I picked up pipe smoking a few months back. I started out with the MM corncobs, loved it. So I then bought myself a briar, a Stanwell (POTY 2010). I loved the briar pipe, so I decided to buy another, this time I bought a Savinelli (Bianca 207). I loved this one too. This past month I have bought 2 more Savinellis (Oscar Tiger 128 and Piazza Spagna 602) and I have a Stanwell (Trio Smooth 118) on the way. I am currently looking for another Stanwell, so I can have 3 Savinellis and 3 Stanwells. I love displaying them on my bookshelf and I have to have a balance of the two brands up there. I have a problem. My wife definitely thinks I have a problem. I just keep telling her "just one more pipe and I'll stop". She doesn't believe me. Any suggestions to stop this madness? I'm sure you guys had or have this same problem.

Buy her a purse... it'll make them blind to it for a solid month or two.
Haha, I actually did buy her a purse when I bought my 1rst Sav. It did seem to do the trick, until another Sav came in the mail the following week. I guess a good rule of thumb would be to buy her a gift EVERY time I buy a pipe.

Haha nice mate! Going through the same thing myself. Are you still off the cigarettes? I know I've been using my pipes as a crutch since I quit.

All I can suggest is don't fight it brother, buy pipe, fight wife... Repeat
Ahhh, still smoking cigarettes every now and then, but nothing like I used too. I cave in whenever we go out drinking, but I too use the pipe as a substitution most the time.

I have a tongue in cheek response that sounds funny in my head, but I doubt that I've had enough coffee yet to type it out with enough style that it makes me sound like anything but a bit of a jerk.

So... I will say this--which I've said many times: I am extremely lucky that my wife has NEVER complained about my tobacco and tobacco related purchases. She understands that I'm going to pay the bills and take care of the family first and foremost, so if I'm spending money, it's because we have it in the budget to spend. When times have been lean, there weren't packages showing up on the porch. Know what I mean?

Although I've never had a quid pro quo system of buying something for myself means buying something for my wife, she does have some Michael Kors and Kate Spade bags laying around. My grandfather used to tell me "If you treat your wife like a thoroughbred, she'll never turn into an old nag"

This...^^^^^ I'm guilty of 7 pipes in 7 months. But 1 was gifted in the pipe newbie trade. And I'm in on the 2015 BOTL Pipe of the year as well. I've noticed that I'm on the hunt for more baccy than pipes to build up the cellar. Which is already enough....but I keep going back for more...

There will come a time when you have enough pipes that, when she asks how many you have, you can reply with all honesty "more than 30". That answer could mean you have 31 pipes or it could mean you have 145. LOL
I've also noticed that, after the "Great Baccy Influx of 2015" (Baccy Birthday Club and two Baccy Lotto wins) that she doesn't question the cellar anymore, either. It's just "Too much." Plain and simple. At this point it could be 30 pounds or 300! The line has already been crossed and the topic is no longer brought up!

If she finds my stash of hidden pipes....I'm f'd. I went through my phase a year or so ago and bought 5 Savinellis because of the pipe threads...had my first one about 30 years ago and love the brand. I told myself I needed multiple pipes because I had to rotate them because I didn't want to use a "hot" pipe....that's what I told myself but of course I know me...I'll lie to myself everytime just like I did with cigars. Do I need more than 3000 cigars at my age....yes...because I might live to be a 100.
