I haven't had a Gurka haven't seen them in my area. But they seem to be all the rage. Are they really all that good or is it a lot of hype. I myself prefer a nice undercrown and am just finishing a very nice Nub Connecticut. Just curious.

They are all hype when I first started smoking I bought every gurkha I could get my hands on because I thought they were the shit. Come to find out the just are shit. There is one I will revisit from time to time and thats the Gurkha Evil with some humi time I do enjoy those. On a side note the owner of the company is a royal ass in my opinion. That affects me buying a product from them also. But if you're set on finding out on your own I bid you good luck sir.

Gurkha doesn't get a lot of love from me, for good reasons:

1. Their marketing is utterly absurd (e.g., "A $1,000 box of cigars for just $99!" )
2. Very poor quality for what you pay. I have yet to smoke one that doesn't unravel; burn and flavor have always been poor.

Even if you're lucky and get a decently rolled stick that burns well, Gurkha is nothing to write home about compared to the dozens of fantastic boutique cigars that are out there (Tatuaje, Caldwell, Crowned Heads, Quesada, Leccia, etc.) or the larger-scale producers (Arturo Fuente, Montecristo, My Father, etc.)

As always, this is just one guy's experience. YMMV! -- "Your Mileage May Vary."

I'll be honest and say at one point I thought these were the greatest cigars ever. I then experienced other brands (and of course this forum, thanks to a friend of mine)and realized there's so many more cigar companies that blow them away. I don't need the free knives or other garbage gurkha throws out there for box purchases. IMHO, to me now, they're nothing but yard 'gars if that anymore. I was gifted a few Hudson Bay's from a good friend of mine so I'll smoke them since I was gifted them. Other than that, you won't see any more of them in my humidor anymore. Save your money and experience other better companies and their products!!

When I first started smoking cigars, I smoked quite a few Gurkhas. They usually came in the sampler I would buy. After a little while I realized how terrible they were, and stopped smoking them. Last night I was working out in the yard and decided what the hell, i've got a few left in my humidor, i'll smoke one. That was a mistake, I forgot just how terrible they are! They're not even a good yard gar.

It's all been said, but here's how I see it:

Gurkha has hundreds of blends (if not thousands). There is virtually no way to keep up quality control standards when the people in the factory are churning out that many cigars. Gurkha is like Budweiser, where a company like Crowned heads is like a quality craft brewer. They still have passion for the ingredients, passion for the process, passion for the product, and the deepest respect for their customers.

Feel free to read my -very serious- and -in depth- reviews. I need to do another, but I just haven't been able to make myself do it. It may come tonight.
Talk about "taking one for the team"....give us a hint as to which one it is...chances are I've used it to snake my plugged toilet....amazing how much ( Gurkha )tobacco can absorb the contents of a plugged up toilet bowl.

Pretty sure that's what they use IN the cigar, contents of a plugged toilet.

I was actually going to say that but discerning hobbyists already know that...poor Gurkha...more than just a misunderstood cigar. ( Did I just throw out a great advertising theme....YW Gurkha! )
