Second this opnion that it's not a copperhead. I caught one once and it looks completely nothing like it.

Google search shows you may be right - Brown Snake.

I'm no expert, though. I only look for them so I don't step on them.

yeah I wasn't sure how soon the copperhead pattern is visible, I know what copperheads look like as adults not infants. this snake is maybe 7 inches long right now. hes trapped in a drain/basement window are where reptiles fall in when they are very small but they cannot get out. usually frogs this is the first snake ive seen. obviously though where theres one baby there are more nearby so I wanted to see what kind it was.
