  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Yeah buddy. While I'm by far not the definitive person on how to smoke a pipe, I was glad I was able to give you some pointers the other day. It is rewarding and it doesn't take too much money to have years of supply on hand. I never know what our lovely government is going to do next with tobacco, so at least I have years of enjoyment ahead of me and I plan on having enough stock on hand to last a lifetime.

So, for someone who's never smoked a pipe (not once), how does it compare/differ from smoking a cigar?
-Entirely different flavors in infinitely many blends; really enjoying it so far
-Entirely different process (filling, tamping, lighting, etc.) Takes a little patience at first, but like anything, once you get it you're good.
-Better aroma! (y)

Just finished getting all my samplers dried out and jarred up. I keep telling myself, "it's cheaper than cigars!" Thanks again to the enablers @redneck_toy , @8ball and @CVAC085 .
Looking good man! Hope you enjoy them.

Only thing I'd suggest is don't go too crazy pre-drying before you jar them.
Generally I think you'll get a better result putting them straight from the tin into a jar, and drying the little bit you need each time.

I'm no expert but the stuff that's been pre-dried has never aged as well in my experience.

If you are planning on smoking quite quickly or want to have some on hand, you could always put some in a ziplock to take around with you and leave the remainder with the natural moisture in the jar.

If pre-drying works for you then by all means mate, just my personal experience. (y)

Let's just say that since I started smoking pipes a year or so ago, I hardly ever reach for a cigar anymore. So many different blends and flavors to explore. Probably more of a slippery slope than cigars, but your money goes further at least.

You're right. Sadly, I've been on more of the cigar kick again and my pipes been collecting dust. Just hard to drive and pipe, AKA very dangerous with the wonderful Long Island drivers we have here.....

I keep thinking a cigar would be nice and that it's been a while sisince I've had one, but then just as I'm going for the humidor I get a whiff of all that aromatic and Latakia goodness in my closet and find myself packing pipe instead. But yeah, if I smoked in the car it would definitely be a cigar.....
