  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I just got a tin of temple bar from gl pease and the top and bottom of the tin are already starting to pop out a little. This is a new blend from them and the date on it is 6/16. My question is should I be worried about it possibly breaking the seal? Should I open it and jar it to be safe? I wasn't planning on opening it anytime soon and didn't want it to break the seal and dry out by the time I get to it.

Hmmm. That is interesting. I doubt that it's bulging from pressure, probably just a deformed tin. If you're worried, the jar is certainly safer

My only concern was I was planning on putting it away for awhile and didn't know if they could break the seal if it got to bad. But since I opened it an smelled how amazing it is I will just have to buy another tin to put away cause I will be smoking this tin starting tomorrow.

I don't know about tobacco but if a can of food has pressure in it there is always the concern of botulism. And should be thrown away. I would do a little research on it before I smoked it.
This! ^^^ The tin's bloating could be caused by some kind of nasty bacterial proliferation. Which = :vomit: "When in doubt...throw it out!" :stop:

I finally got emails back from c&d and gl pease and they said the same thing. I have it in a jar now and it looks fine and smells great so I'm not worried about it.

Botulism is absolutely a concern with a bulging food can. With a product that will be burned to be 'consumed' Clostridium botulinum will be killed, and the toxins it produces will be degraded by the heat of burning tobacco.
