Been working as a government contractor for almost a year now through a small company. Just got told today to send the government dept manager an updated copy of me resume. Apparently they are trying to convert me to a govt employee. This is 2 weeks after I was told they are in a hiring freeze so I was a bit shocked. They are going to have to do some negotiating as I still have 6 month left on the minimum contract length. Hope hey can work it out. My growing family could definitely use the stability so that in a year or 2 maybe the wife can stay home for a while with the kids. Should get a decent pay increase too.

Great news brother. Good luck with getting through the system if it's not a direct hire. If you have to go through the normal process that's an it more tricky. Helps if you're a vet and/minority. Let me know if you have any questions. I was a contractor for ten years and went through multiple stints to get hired as a fed at DHS state GSA DOE and Labor.

Thanks man. Will do. I am a vet and it should be a straight conversion and not the normal application process. I was told that if they can negotiate it, it will be a quick process.

May have shot myself in the foot. Wasn't expecting a hiring freeze to happen that fast. Have to see the details if any military supporting agencies are exempt and not just military.

Well despite the hiring freeze was told this is moving forward. Apparently they got approval for a bunch of positions though the Secretary of the Navy. Should get an offer soon. Just hope it's what I need. Not counting my chickens yet.

Got the tentative offer this afternoon. It's exactly what my family needed right now with my wife planning on not going back to work. It was almost way way better if someone didn't catch an HR mistake. The initial one i got this morning had me maxed out for my grade. Man that would have been nice. Needless to say there is going to be some serious celebrating when I have time.
