Any idea what affect this will have on supply and prices? It was bad enough that Fuente had that huge loss with the missing trailer. A LOT of the big names are based in Tampa/Miami/ Southern Florida. Will be interesting to see what happens as a result with all of the flooding and damage.

I have to believe they've planned for that contingency. Cigars are big business and hurricanes routinely hit Cuba, Haiti and the DR. We may see some impact but I wonder how severe.

I might be mistaken, but aren't most of the non-cuban cigars grown/imported to/rolled/packaged in Central America and then shipped worldwide from there?

Many of the main distribution centers from those companies are in Florida and most come through the port of Miami. Ricky Patel, Padron, Davidoff, Fuente, perdomo, Alec bradley. . Just to name a few main distribution centers are out of Florida.

If only RP could have suffered drastic losses and the world could smoke incredible cigars daily!
"That's Terrible how could you wish that on a person or business!?!?"

So you're saying most of theirs are just as bad as the ones I've had so far?..... ;)

The biggest slowdown we've experienced was due to power outages and making sure people were safe and taken care of. 1-2 week delay on our shipments; otherwise, business as normal.

I mean... that's really what we should be worried about... making sure everyone is safe and or getting help.

The last thing people need to worry about is a shortage of cigars.

The largest impact we had/have is that the shipments for restocks and new releases that were en route or at customs were/are delayed. They give these hurricanes a large window, so shipments from manufacturers stop long before the hit, and do not resume until the carriers feel that the logistics of shipping from A to B through or to Florida from other affected areas across the gulf are back to 'normal'. On top of that, some companies will manually hold the shipments at the manufacturer even before they are held by the carrier, so as to not risk their shipment being caught in the mess of everyone else in some carrier warehouse.

That being said, the power outages are mostly resolved, and shipping to retailers has only been delayed 1-3 days from manufacturers with warehouses based in Florida.

If you buy from a retailer in Florida, there is a bit more of a delay because carriers held 90% of the packages going into the state in Tallahassee & Jacksonville until the business account contacts the carrier and asks them to release the package....
What would be helpful is the carrier letting us know that we have to call in. Many retailers probably expect them to automatically release the packages, which I'm sure they will eventually, but I called and had mine released from TX, CA, NV yesterday and had them today. I'm betting they don't auto-release for a while, so have your retailer call in if they're based in Florida and they had a package en route.

Also, yes @ChuckMejia , safety should be the top concern. Florida had a hell of a plan in place for Irma. More prepared than I've ever seen Florida gubment in the last 30 years.
