Some of you know
I’ve had a smoking room in my garage for some years. Always has big plans but never the time or money to make it what I really wanted. The dream was alive though.

Until last week. As of last week, the smoking room has been smoked in for the last time.

As my wife’s business has grown, it has slowly overtaken the garage. First one bay, then the other. Finally I realized we just needed the space for inventory and supplies. It was my idea, my wife never once brought it up, even though it was the most logical thing to do. She’s just sweet like that. And don’t get the wrong idea, it’s not just a hobby business. It’s how we pay to put five kids through school, so it wasn’t me putting aside my dream for hers, it was about helping to grow this business so we can invest in our children’s future.

So, last week, I sat and watched Infinity Wars and smoked an H Upmann No 2, and then bid adieu to living the dream. Then I moved my stuff out and in the days that followed, slowly moved in the absurd amount of inventory and supplies that had just been piling up.

The work space is so much more usable now, and we can manufacture and ship so much more quickly without having to constantly juggle stuff around or clear off a space before working. It was the necessary thing to do, but it still broke my heart a little.

So, if you think of her, have a little toast to the the ol’ smoking room. I’ll miss her.

What's your business? Lots of people here like to support local business. Sorry you had to give up the smoking lounge, but maybe it's a for now and you can get something else going in the future?

So what is your wife’s business? Input plug here? And sad but good all in one....I’d tell my wife to find her on spot!

I have a room here dedicated to my business. When we moved into the condo, our bedroom got set up in the spare room. Planned on getting a new bedroom set, but business got bigger and it took over what was supposed to be our master bedroom. Mama bear is good natured about it but hinting that it’s time for a bigger place. She’s a saint although I won’t tell her that. Bummer on the smoking room, but grats on expanding the business!

Thanks for asking. I forget that most of you aren’t from the old chat days!

You can see her stuff on our Etsy page:
http://www.waxandwooletc.com.

We have some cool men’s candles, including a “Tobacco” candle that smells like smoking a pipe around the campfire. We actually experimented a bit to try and nail down a “humidor” (Spanish cedar)scent but I was never was satisfied with it. May try to do that again sometime.

If she keeps growing at the rate she has been, we may move the business to a studio space in a few years. But the littles have to be a little older, and we have to increase our income enough to cover that kind of added expense and have it make sense.

...I’d tell my wife to find her on spot!
Lol, well like I said it was my idea. And the business is “hers” in the sense that she runs it, has the ideas, does all the social media marketing, and manufactures the product. But I run the financial and shipping end of things, and the money goes into our kids’ education. We work a lot together, it’s more of a family business, not just “her” business.

Ah, opportunities have arisen. Now there are no more excuses to not have a "real" smoking area and not just part of a garage! Used travel trailer, a Home Depot garden shed, renovate the attic. Now's the time to get creative! Continue the dream!!

Good man! (y)
Hopefully you have an alternate spot to smoke in comfort.
Out of curiosity, is the product unique or do you have a lot of competition with the same or similar products? I’m a fan of Shark Tank and just wondering if you could really take it up a few notches with an investor and/or mentor? If there’s nothing out there that can compare and your numbers and business plan are solid, it might be something to think about.

Necessity is the mother of invention esp. when it comes to any type of "mancave"...fortunately for me I have more than a few areas to smoke around my house but know that many do not. If you have a backyard one can fashion a small shed as a place to go.....one doesn't need much room and sheds go for cheap through Craigslist....a heater and an electrical line to play music or TV and a chair.

Sorry for your loss. I feel Infinity Wars was an appropriate final movie for the space. Hopefully, like others have said, i hope you have a decent alternative spot.
That being said, congrats on the growing business!

They’re container candles. Hand poured, pure soy wax, etc etc but in the end there’s nothing an investor would be interested in, and there are others who make hand-poured candles. We have a good market, we’re selling to a specific market, and we’ll expand that over time, but we don’t have nearly the market share one would need to take this to an investor.
