I bought two pounds each of Condega seco, ligero, and viso. The seco and ligero both smell dreamy rico. The viso smells dusty moldy, like bread gone bad, at least the one bag I opened, and it has this white stuff on it. Have yet to check out the other bag. The white moldy look is all thru the stack of leaves in this bag. Anyone else run into this mold? Got a solution; or is the whole batch strictly destined for the trash can?

Yep, not mold but starch. Wet your hands while sorting and, re-stacking / rubbing out. Rinse your hands a few times in between.
Leave it to dry some by re-stacking it a few piles over a few hours.

Starch? Really?
Does not smell starchy. Smells like your bread went bad. It's a sneezy smell.

Well, I'll soon know, cause I'm gonna burn one. If I kack and fall over with moldberculosis, you're invited to the funeral.

In most likeliness. I like this viso a lot and have been smoking a lot of it.

Marc, I have developed a repugnance for this viso. Tastes fine enough. Not like it gave me the lung rot... yet. But I don't like bunching up the moldy looking white stuff that you tell me is starch. No doubt just an unreasonable aversion... but my idea is to have a happy hobby, not a chore ... So why not be happy.

Since you like it & will smoke it, shoot me an address and I'll mail it off to you gratis. Not looking for freight nor for swap. Just getting it out the door. Otherwise, it's going in the trash bin.

I have sampled both pounds, so neither is complete. I've only used it in about a dozen gars. Close enough to two pounds left for you.

TIA

I received a pound this past week that is exactly as you describe. the smell plus white makes you immediately think mold. The musty smell is very off-putting. I seem to recall this twice a little over a year ago, with one being the Mata Fina binder than was discounted. This viso certainly is not at all reminiscent to the ligero or seco. Has anyone brought this to Don's attention? I love most his products, but I'd appreciate "musty aroma" being in the description!!

No, I did not. I know how Don works. He would immediately want to send me something else. I already feel in his debt for the superb mold he threw in with the deal. You tell him.

I feel kinda guilty about my immaculate mold-, er, starch-free bag. It's probably at least a year old, though.

Most all my stuff is a year or two old. That's what happens when you stash way too much leaf against the inevitable tobaccolypse. It never seems to go bad. Could never do that with LO packaging; but those WLT bags are forever.

I am down to just a little over 30 lbs, tho.

I'm probably going to "wash" it and see if I can get it working well in a milder blend. I got some of this stuff in my first kit though and it was great! I will probably stick with the ligero and seco for a while as a precaution.

Well, I'm wrong & Marc's right. I'll admit it. I goofed.

Not the first time I made a mistake. Way back in 1970, I got curious about all these mistakes that people told each other that they had made, so I tried one out. That was a mistake. I trusted the gal and she broke my heart. Having once tried, I have avoided. Except, of course, for that cursed spall czech,... but that's the smart phone's falt. Well, that, and the RedHead, who was just too damn hot not to.

At any rate, I washed off about half a pound of this stuff with warm water and a soft paint brush. Dried it on a rack I made on the work bench. Looks clean. Doesn't smell real rico; the way the seco does; but doesn't smell sneezy either. Lacks the oily coating we love. But... Have rolled a number of Delicados with it, and am convinced it tastes WAY better without that odious white fur on it. I will know for sure about Christmas, when I will be able to smoke a seasoned Delicado with and without fur side by side and compare.

Still could have been mold rather than starch. I've received boxes of Cubans with mold on'em and I just wiped'em down with a warm cloth and then they were good to go.
