Keep in mind mail order are fakes. Yes I’ll get flamed and told about “trusted sellers” etc. but being in Canada and having real access to legal CC’s I stopped buying boxes online. They are just not the same.
Honestly if they can produce the unique flavor profiles I'm getting via mail order I'd pay the same for "fakes". It is interesting how nothing I've tried as far as non CC's can come anywhere close to the flavors and moreover aroma I'm getting via mail order. I'm also paying less for the "fake" mail order CC's than I was for most of NC's that I like.

Questions still stand, just swap out CC's with uniquely flavored "F"CC's ;)

I’ve ordered from a few Swiss retailers for CC’s (non-Cohiba) and they are legit. I’ve been to several La Casa Del Habano’s (Canada, Mexico, Germany, Japan, etc.) and know how to spot a fake. I feel like the non-Cohiba brands not faked as much, my $.02.

" who knows how much my tastes will change in another 3 months or 3 years.. "
This is a real concern, because it will evolve.
I have enjoyed cigars for 40 plus years, I can survive on CCs quite easily, but an occasional Nica bomb ( Illusione ) is a treat......

In that case I'm the proud owner of 600 fake CC's Yikes! On the plus side they only cost about as much as 100 Canadian CC's and I'm loving most of them more than and the majority of my NC's

I did apparently find out the reason I was getting "overloaded" by smoking only cubans was a form of "olfactory fatigue " as I learned how to retro-hale about a month ago, and at the same time started smoking primarily CC's. By using a Sinus rinse (almost daily) I am now able to smoke (and thoroughly enjoy) CC's all day and all night :)

As of now my current CC favs (and overall favs) most with 1-2 years on the box date are....

  • PSD4 (and pretty much anything Partagas)
  • SLR Regios
  • HU Mag 46
  • RASS
  • HdM E2 (also like the corona's)
  • Bol Royal Corona
  • Monte #4
The only CC I didn't really care for is the RyJ petit churchill (but it was from a sampler and maybe required more age to get more flavor)

As a result of this thread I do intend on trying to age at least 5 sticks out of each box (more on the boxes I'm not crazy about), but it's going to be hard (because of the reason I started this thread), most of them are so good now!

I really do appreciate all the feedback as I continue to learn and evolve in this venture...

You have some great favorites on that list and we seem to have a really similar palate. You sound like you need zero recommendations but since we are so similar I’d also consider a few others on your next order including:

- Partagas Serie P No. 2
- Montecristo No. 2
- Montecristo Petit Edumundo
- Trinidad Vigia

Cheers and long ashes.

Thanks, I've tried and liked a lot of the most popular, and I actually just posted a new thread for this very question. Trini is definitely on my hit list and a larger Monte

The more recent stuff can be smoked ROTT.
Anything new or are there some that still need to sit to taste their best?

I'm noticing as I smoke more that the H Upman Magnum & pretty much all Partagas are loaded with flavor but after some rest in my humidor the Hoyo Epi & RASS seem to have lost some of their bite. Others like Bolivar and SLR I'm not really sure if they can develop more but they are pretty good right now (just not as strong as the Hup Mag and Part)

I had a jl2 august 2019 last night and it was great not very complex but a solid "90" rott. Also monte 4 and party shorts from the spring of 19 are smoking well.

Oh yea forgot about Monte, they have been good but seemed stronger when I smoked them without rest than they do now, but as I'm new to all these it could just be I'm getting used to them.

Most everything I've seen has been smokable and rather good.

I love how helpful everyone here is. I always wonder the same thing and was given general advice on buying new Cubans, smoke one right away and see what you think about them and then age the remaining sticks for at least a year. I have done this with all of my Cubans and sometimes the ammonia level is so high that one year isn’t enough lol.

Hi,
As I am currently in the Middle East, and running a certain "Friendly Gathering" for Cigar lovers in Doha - Qatar, I have come across some Aficionados who are in love of aging Cigars.
I tried some of them, and you can tell for sure how Cigars change with Age.

The problem is (as per my opinion), due to the high demand over Cuban Cigars, and with a limited quantity (Only in Cuba), Cigars Quality Control is reducing. That is why we always have 2, 3 or 4 Cigars damaged out of every box of 15. Sometimes you feel you are puffing raw Cigars (exaggerating a bit, but this is the smoke of the fire).

That is why, personally, I am more and more in love with the non Cuban Cigars.

Now, I saw Cuban Cigars aged for more than 5 and 8 years. As long as you are maintaining a quality humidor with all the work around it, you can be relaxed that it will make your stogies improve in quality (Flavor, aroma...).

One advice from a friend who loves aging wine and Cuban Cigars:
- Every year, he is buying Wine bottles and Cuban Cigars from the same year, and aging them. (same year, means less price than aged boxes)
- He kept doing the same task for 10 years, with a clear labeling so that he doesn't mix the years.
- After 10 years, he is still doing it, but now started enjoying a 10 years' old (aged) cigar and wine bottle, that he bought for a regular price.

Just an idea, hope it will help!
Cheers, Long Leaf BOTL!
