So trying my hand at a new way of infusing my cigars with some coffee flavors. So ive infused cigars before with coffee and it worked well but wanted to try something new. Previously I had finished cigars in a humidor with a shot of espresso and every 4-5 days I would just put in a fresh shot. After about 3 months I had some decent coffee infused cigars. This time though im going all out. Here is my process, and would love some feed back on what you guys think!

Humidor filled with whole coffee beans, espresso blend from a local roaster. After about a week of seasoning I added enough leaves to roll 5 cigars. I put them directly on the beans and covered them with a few more beans and added a shot. Then I let the RH get down to 50RH. Got it back up to 70RH I have been keeping it there, its been 3 weeks.

My thought is the leaves dried out a bit and once they go up in RH they will absorb more of the oils from the beans/shot. Not sure if this is how it actually works but made sense to me.

I figure ill give it a few months in there and then roll the cigars with the leaves. Once they are rolled I will put them in the coffee bag that held the beans and that bag back in my coffee humidor and keep cycling fresh shots of espresso. I dont plan on putting any coffee directly on the leaves when I roll them. Hoping I can get some serious coffee flavors this way.

Is this overkill? Anyone have experience infusing leaves instead of cigars? Hoping it turns out well.

Have done my own infusion before and what needs emphasised is patience, time and 65% humidity. A tupperador or wood humidor that will keep a consistent RH is key and a few months where you smoke one cigar a month to test the process. For me it was at the 3 month mark that I hit pay dirt. I used Columbian blend ground ( regular ) with no cello. 70% RH is probably best to push the effect and using a small size cigar as well.

I don’t know anything about infusing. One thought I have is the coffee beans likely have oils on them. I wonder if that would be good or bad to get in the leaf? I would imagine a lot of flavor in the oils. Then the nave part is how does it burn with the oil on it?

I think I saw a video on infusing. If I find it I’ll post it.

Basically the theory is to impart the oils and flavors in to the leaves as your infuse. Most people do it with a finished rolled cigar. My plan here is to do it to the leaves before they are rolled, then roll them and infuse some more. I have done the infusing before with finished cigars and they burn nicely, just have to make sure the cigars are around 65-69RH in my experience. Anything higher and it gets too soft to burn evenly.

I like that idea of infusing the raw leaf....wish I would have thought of that which may have cut down the wait-time.

Thats my hope. Also hoping to get some more coffee flavor into the leaves that way. I always thought that infusing a whole cigar you are going to miss some of it. I feel like you can get the wrapper infused and maybe the ligero part of the filler but the rest isnt going to absorb as much. Exposed surface area and all that jazz.

FX Smith's makes cigars infused with everything from vanilla to cognac. I personally hate 'em. But... They've been making them for a century and a half, so let's assume they know how. They infuse the cursed schidtsticks BEFORE rolling. I specifically asked.

You know, the funny thing is I don't mind, say, black cherry pipe tobacco. But infused cigars give me the shudders.

I honestly prefer non infused cigars. I have been getting seriously into coffee recently though. I do enjoy the coffee infused cigars ive had. I love my local coffee roaster and bought a 5lb bag of freshly roasted coffee beans to stock up, worrying they would close. I figured might as well try to infuse some cigars.

Thanks for the info about FX! Great to know im on the right track.
