We are still technically a month from the first official day of summer. That said, 'round these parts we are well on our way to things turning hotter than 10 yards of freshly-paved asphalt in Hades. What are some of your favorite drinks when the weather is hot? For me:

  • Beer - This time of year in particular is when I go for regular old macrobrews (usually Miller Lite, Lone Star, or Modelo). I appreciate stouts/microbrews/IPAs/etc as much as the next guy, but when the weather gets hot, I go for light, crushable, not too hoppy, and not too fancy. Something that can be salted/limed is always good, too. Aka, a good "beach beer".
  • Classic daiquiri - not that slushy frozen $#@% either. :D Just fresh lime juice, good white rum, and a little sugar/agave syrup. Shake with some ice and drink up, Johnny! Hemingway liked his with the addition of grapefruit juice and maraschino liqueur i believe, hold the sugar syrup.
  • Radlers - Technically a beer...but they are so low alcohol and sweet that its difficult to categorize them as such. Grapefruit radlers are absolutely delicious on a hot day.
  • Tequila - No salt or lime for me (save that for the beer), but a nicely chilled pour of some good blanco is always delicious. I'm a fan of Campo Azul, Casamigos, and good old Patron. I also like reposado/anejo...but I like it room temp and not when its hot out.
  • Rum - A good sipping rum with a cube or two of ice. Lately I have been enjoying Plantation 20th Anniversary. It's especially good with a stick.
  • Michelada - Never tried one? Do it! Kind of a pain in the @#$ to mix up, but well worth it. I am partial to the versions that use Clamato. Any light beer works, but I usually use Modelo.

What are your favorites?

I drink the same sh*t all year round: tequila, beer, scotch, gin, water, and coffee. If I feel like getting fancy, I'll drop a beer and a shot of reposado tequila into a Tecate and call'er done... or maybe I'll juice a lemon and drink it with mineral water. But that's all for me, really.

Try a Caipirinha (Cachaça, lime, sugar) or a Big Ginger (Irish, lime wedge, lemon wedge, ginger ale). Both are dangerous in summer. Also like traditional margaritas (tequila, lime juice, agave nectar, triple sec).

Its such a convenient thing to have. Limes always go bad quick when u need them. Its made by True Lime.
I'm so getting that. Thanks! I always intend to cut up some lime wedges to take to the pool/beach but then I forget and end up limeless.

corona. i know it's overpriced mexican pee, but really the only option when it's hot out and i've been outside for any length of time. i need to check out crystallized lime.

Yup! Bock and Blonde are mainstays. And I agree about Corona....its horrible generally speaking but magical when the weather is hot and a lime is handy.

My old summer favorite was adding whiskey to my peach tea. So far this year, it has been adding whiskey to my lemonade....

Funny you should post that about Yuengling...I actually tried my first one a few hours ago. Good stuff. I had always been curious.

Those both sound like winners! I figure some bourbon and lemonade would go beautifully together.
