I mean, brute strength can sometimes work wonders. Especially since scratching/denting it doesn't really matter. Though I would urge caution if using sharp/hard steel tools.

You would need three of you to be able to reach where you are working. You sister's boyfriend is a carpenter. I have found that a 24 ounce framing hammer can be pretty persuasive. Rethink the concrete blocks or if you want to get fancy use some large stones to make a fire ring.

Here is what I used for my fire pit. 10 blocks arranged in a circle gives you a fairly good size ring. I made mine 2 rows tall and dug out the area underneath about a foot. Easy solution for under $20. I’ll try and snap a pic tomorrow and post.

Solid points being made. I'd say just dig it down a wee bit, slap those stones around it and maybe throw some sand in there. Boom, done! All you need after that is the wood and the marshmallows.

Here is a pic of my fire pit

The Inner diameter is about 3 feet. It is actually a little deeper than it looks because I need to dig the ashes out which I did not get too last fall before the snow flew. The bottom is about 18” below ground level.

I'm gonna see if the guys hauling away the washer can rip the basket out.

That's a nice set-up. Does it get muddy when it rains?

Even with the clay soil I have in my yard it drains well enough that I've never had an issue with it.

It may be that after a fire or two there are enough ashes lining the bottom to keep that from happening?

Frickin Hell, i just realized that I can go literally hours talking about firepits. The amount of time I can spend eagerly discussing firepit layouts, construction, etc leads me to believe that I'm fast approaching peak Dad Status. :cautious: I just need one of those floppy ballcaps now

Lol, try this again...

That washer basket pit is pretty neat. We've always used half a 55 gal drum. Just toss it where ever and insta fire pit. Finally got around to installing a perminate one last year. Hoping to get around to finishing the cobble wall in between the pillars this summer.

Stay tuned... my cousin is getting a new washer the week of the 18th.
She has a vertical Kenmore (?).
How do I get the basked out? 0_o
I can't believe I couldn't sleep and just read through 75 posts on fire pit building. I'm rooting for you too! I'll send you a 5er after you post some completed pics!
