A Razorback lost in Texas land
Forgive my rambling. If you’ve seen many of my posts, you know I like writing. You also likely know I’m primarily a CC smoker, like many of you. However, as we all know, that branch of the hobby is being driven by astronomical price increases. Habanos S.A. saw record numbers in 2024, and they will not be slowing down, ever. They would rather ditch the regular production stuff that we so love, focus on the RE/LE/Hiba/Trini stuff that fills their pockets oh so well, and possibly forget about everything else little by little. Who really wanted the LGC line to dwindle down? Who?? That’s right, nobody. They’ve done it before and they will continue. Call me an alarmist, but I kinda fear for regular production Juan Lopez down the line, maybe Robaina too. I’m not posting to discuss the CC or NC markets, as lord knows I don’t have a brain for business.
My CC stock will not be growing, much, I don’t believe. I would, however, like it to last for several more years, if not a couple more decades. NC’s will never satisfy completely what I love about the stuff from that little island, but there is a LOT of great NC leaf to be had. I’m not posting to discuss “What NC is the most CC-like?” That’s been done to death, usually to little if any success. I’m not posting to discuss “replacements” for my Habanos stuff. So what am I doing?
Just making a journal, but publicly. Over the Summer months, and probably well into Fall, I will be opening my palate to things I either haven’t tried, or have only tried a couple times and really enjoyed, and occasionally things I know I love, with a focus not on “replacing,” but rather on filling the gaps between my CC smokes. Scratching the itch, if you will. Admittedly I’ve only got a small handful of brands in mind for this particular project. Namely Aladino, Curivari, Illusione, and Warped. A few others will make appearances, and I’m even open to some suggestions here and there. The idea is simple. Ramblings from a CC-loving palate, about brands and sticks that scratch my itch to some extent. Will it scratch yours? Difficult to say. Again, despite what it may seem, my focus is not on replacement. That’s impossible. My focus is on filling the gaps. Scratching the itch.
This is a journal for me, and if you want to humor me, awesome! If not, no worries. Taste buds are all different, and flavor profiles really are subjective. I currently do duo reviews with a friend on a different forum, and we’ve proven time and time again that no two people taste the exact same things, though they might agree on a spectrum of the “flavor wheel.” Cigar reviews are one person’s impressions on a smoke, nowhere near universal truth. Some of the notes will be a little more general, not full-length reviews.
First one going up soon, Aladino Corona.
Cheers!
