  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

check out this youtube clip. while i have been trained in self defense with a knife, anything that is in your hand can be used as an effective weapon. while some might laugh at using a pen, or a book, these are proven techniques that can work in self defense.

Hehe, my little brother has one. It's a little bit bigger than that I think, and the one that's issued to you when you go overseas. That little sucker will make it so you don't see anything for a little while!

Surefire has some very bright, small flashlights that are self defense designed. they are heavy duty, and actually have "sharpened" edges to make them a very effective striking tool. They are also bright as hell. you flash it in someones eyes, and they are going to be F'd up for a couple of seconds. thats enough time to get away, or to "go to town" on them. whatever makes you happy. the models are the e2d and the 6p defender.

Reminds me of some of the action scenes in the Jason Borne movies.
yes, you are correct. Matt Damon took Kali lessons for the film. There are different versions of Kali, but it is primarily a weapons based system. If any of you guys are interested, my Kali instructor has some great DVD's.

Prisoners have been wearing magazine armor for decades...I always carry a 6PD with me, especially in places where I have to leave the guns at home. Krav Maga also goes into some 'unconventional weapons' training. Always remember, everywhere you are, you are surrounded by weapons. You are NEVER unarmed. Ever been hit in the throat with a magazine? Had a salt shaker thrown at you? Chairs, pens, pencils, books, belts, soda bottles/cans, everything, use it all, the only fair fight is the one you win. It's mandatory that I go home every night, it's optional for the other guy.

I did some Karete training as a teen and a chick in my class got arrested for defending herself. She was later cleared of all charges, when it was determined it was self defense. She burried a Blow-pop lollipop stick to the hilt in a guys neck late one night. I wish camera phones were around back then.

I wanna be like her when I grow up. Seriously. O.O

That video is really cool, and I fully believe that if you have the training, you're set. The thing that would be difficult is being READY for anything to happen. In the video, the guy reacted AS SOON AS he was attacked, where as in real life, most people aren't always ready to be attacked and that has a tendency to be the deciding factor in who wins. Still, that kind of training would be awesome to have, especially in this day and age.

i normally carry a mini-mag light! wrap your fist around one of those and deliver a few hammerfists!!
One of my sisters joked about those big maglights. She asked, "Have you ever wondered why cops hold them like this?"

She held it like a knife, only horizontal, with the light shining in your face. Then she said, "It's so that when you start being an ass, then can do this."

And she quickly twisted her hand forward and down so that the handle part flipped up and over, which would effectively crack you in the skull...should you start being and ass. ^^ Whether it's true or not doesn't matter. I found it to be useful and funny at the same time.

you must be aware when you are in the right(or wrong) situation. walking through a parking lot at nite? you should be very aware of whats going on around you.

In that situation, certainly. But, the situation they showed, like the guy with the knife on the plane..I don't see that as realistic except in a movie. Honestly, how could the woman be ready to shine the light in the guys eyes if he's coming up from behind her? Well, unless it's a hostage situation like 911 and it was all worked out....omg..you know what? Nevermind.

lol

Point is, I think that stuff is worth knowing.

The end.
