BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I've said before that I've never been a fan of Police officers. Mostly due to abuse of power and condesending remarks made to me a friends when we weren't doing anything wrong. We have had several cars torn apart and searched through for hours due to skating late in the night. Nothing on us and nothing found and we were of age to be out late.
Of course I have since met several officers, both at church and on BOTL, who I'm sure don't act like that and have offered good advice and a shoulder of support when needed.
This competion is what gives Cops a bad name and creates a sterotype that is very unfortunate for the good guys out there. That is plain and simple some B.S.!!!

good intentions,,, ill-conceived plan!
and, there will always be bad apples in any profession, and race for that matter! it's still amazes me that a supposed educated people have these pre-conceived stereotypes.... i have a saying, "half the people open the door for me! The other half slam it in my face!!"

I gree the stereotype is due to the few bad apples. I have grown to respect the officers in my area more and more since my kids were born and I calmed down a bit. And have realized that they are there to protect me from people who are like I used to be.

I don't know what it is about the LAPD, but this doesn't shock me one bit. They've had the crooked cop stereotype for decades. They try and try to rid themselves of the negative stereotype, and then this? :dunno:

THIS IS NOT LAPD. This is Sheriff Baca and his band of political appointees. This is the LA County Sheriff's Department that felt a few hours was enough for Paris to languish in her cell.
The crooked cop sterotype? LA? How about Balitmore, Boston, NEW YORK. LA cops are little lambs compared to the years of ongoing corruption in those cities.
Bah.

The riots in LA were about opportunity. People getting what they could during a bad situation. Has LAPD over reacted? Yes. Crooked/ COmpared to the east coast they dont even come close to crooked.
Oh and OJ walked because he had enough money and celebrity to buy is way out. Lets see him do it this time.

"Though King had a past and violent history of criminal convictions and drug use, thousands of blacks in the Los Angeles area joined in what is known as a race riot involving acts of law-breaking including looting, assault, arson and murder in seeing in King a metaphor for injustice against Blacks in the United States. In all, 53 people died during the riots. On April 29, 1992, three of the officers were acquitted by a jury of ten whites, one Latino, and an Asian. The jury could not agree on a verdict for one of the counts on one of the officers. The acquittal was based in part on a 13-second segment of the video tape that was edited out by television news stations in their broadcast. It was not previously seen by the public. Those first 13 seconds of videotape are very blurry. It shows Rodney King getting up off the ground and charging in the general direction of one of the police officers, Ofc. Laurence Powell. Prior to that, the testimony of the officers indicated that they tried to physically restrain King but, according to the officers, King was able to physically throw them off himself. That alleged incident was not caught on tape. Based on this testimony and the previously unseen segment of the videotape, the officers were acquitted on almost all charges. The general public was largely unaware of the testimony and the unedited videotape footage."

My statement was that the riots had more to do with the overall feeling about the LAPD than they were about Rodney King, i.e., the people rioted because they were sick of the police.
I never disputed what occurred between King and the police.

Yep. Took out the liquor stores, (mostly Korean), looted and stole goods from their own local stores, assulted their fellow citizens etc. I remember too Greg.
I figure the next time I am going to start a riot, I am heading to my parents house to torch and loot it. That'll teach everybody! :hysterica
As far as the deputies are concerned...There are so many officers out there that fight daily to uphold the legitimacy and the integrity of the badge. Then, there are those who seem to do whatever they can to destroy the badge. Damn the few.

Man, I totally agree, and I don't want to come off as a cop basher from my previous comments, because I most certainly am not.
To serve and protect, how honorable is that? :clap:
