How long is it ok to keep my sticks in the box without being in a humidor or anything, just the box from the shop.

BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

That all depends on where that box is kept. It won't last as long on the window sill as it would in the basement where it's dark, cool and more damp. Personally, if I didn't have a humidor, I wouldn't start acquiring boxes quite yet.
If it was sealed, I would say a week at the most. not sealed, a few days. That's just me, I'm sure they could make it longer, but why would you. If they have to be out, due to travel, then be sure they get some good acclamation time in the humi once you get home.

Set up small cooler with some RH Beads and toss you boxes in there. :thumbsup:

There's probably some kind of timeframe you can max out, but I say....
Why chance it???? Put em in the humidor. And like Wade said, if I didn't have one I wouldn't acquire boxes.
Listen to Mark. Go to Wal-get (get it?) or the like and pick up a small tupperware like container. Throw in your humidification device (beads preferrably) and your box and close the container. Good to go. See the primer in the "Storage" section of the forum for more hints.
To answer your question, you should be good for a few days depending on the relative humidity in your house. Don't put it in direct sunlight and keep it somewhere that is cool. But if you have to go longer than a week (and that's probablypushing it), definitely create a makeshift humi.

hmm, alright thanks guys. I only have a desktop humi for now so i guess ill need to make a better one for my boxes.
Come on guys, who here hasn't aquired boxes and realized after the fact that they didn't have the space? While I understand the sentiment, lets just figure that Necro's just a little ahead of the curve. :wink:

Well then take the cigars out of the box, and put them in your humidor!
tupperware, or a really thick ziplock bag. The cigars should be reasonably humidified and as long as they are sealed in an airtight container, they should be fine for a couple weeks at least. However, in the long run you'll need to get a cooler or something.

its full. (sorry for all the bad typing, btw. I can only use one arm to type.)I have a boveda pack and a puck from CI so I may just get a tupperware container and use one in there for my two boxes.

Buy a small ice chest. 100 qt. Follows the cooledor guidelines, toss in the puck and a bowl with some kitty litter crystals and viola. Cooledor. DONT buy a 50 qt as you will fill it way too soon.
Yeah bigger is always better with coolerdors. Speaking from personal experience they always fill up faster than you expect, and plus the extra room will just give you an excuse to go out and buy more cigars:smokingbo
