  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

How Often Do You Smoke?

I have been smoking cigars regularly for nearly a year and now find I smoke at least a half a double corona a day, without skipping any days. I do not inhale and am in no way addicted to the smoke ... just the experience of sitting on the porch and enjoying the stogie.

Just curious about others here. How frequently do you light up? Do you smoke more than one cigar a day? Do you just smoke on those special occasions with no regularity? Anyone feel an addiction or can you stop smoking for a period of time with no physical longing?

When you say your smoke a half of a double corona what do you do with the other half? That sounds like you should be smoking a smaller cigar cause you're missing out on the best part.

I've taken long breaks from the hobby intermittently due to financial and other constraints that have circumvented my ability to fully enjoy the finer aspects of cigar smoking. I don't forsee any changes anytime soon and plan to fully build up my cabinet and then some. When I am fully into this hobby I enjoy a cigar a day usually. Sometimes less, sometimes more. I don't make a big deal about it if I miss a few days.

I agree....its more enjoyable when you can afford it. If financial issues arise I know that my cigar buying will slow. But, necessity is the mother of invention so if you really need to smoke cigars you will find a way to come up with the money. its a no-brainer though.....cigars for you or diapers for your kid?

You aren't alone, although there are plenty here that don't smoke that much. Then again, I know of plenty of people who probably down 3-4 sticks a day on average. I smoke once or twice a week most of the time as that's about all I can get away with (wife dontcha know). That being said, I often fit a couple of smokes into those days (though not double corona in size) and at herfs or when the wife's away I might go 2-3 days smoking 4 or more sticks a day.

I also regularly go weeks without a stick due to schedules (or if I'm sick). I feel no physical longing for a cigar, but then again I smoked cigarettes for years and everytime I've quit I've never had withdrawl symptoms so I don't really know how much that information helps.

I forgot that you asked about physical longing...

No, I have never experienced any physical distress over missing cigars. In fact, if I never smoked another cigar for the rest of my life it would in no way physically (chemically) impair me. I smoke cigars because I enjoy them, and it's a hobby that I consider upscale...it's a luxury I'm afforded. If that was taken away somehow I would find a less expensive hobby to enjoy I'm sure.

I smoke about 3 a week during the winter and spring. Over the summers, it's probably averages out to one a day, with some days being 3-4 cigar days, and some weeks with no smokes at all. I'll go two or three weeks without time to smoke, then have other weeks where I've got plenty of time.

I smoke a minimum of two cigars a day. Supposed be one but screw it. I have a nice one robusto after lunch and then a full satisfying torpedo after dinner.

As far as the financial side goes to adapt a quote; Cigars will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no cigars.

I try to set aside at least one hour a day where I can enjoy a smoke. Since its has been warm I can enjoy one on the back porch almost every night. If I am not busy in the a.m. I burn one to start the day off. So on average I get to have one a day. The key for me is that I only smoke when I can enjoy it.

I probably run through 3-4 a week, maybe more if time permits. While the nicotine buzz hits me almost every time at some level, the urge to smoke to satisfy a craving has never come over me.

I'm averaging about 5 or 6 a week now. Usually get in 2 on days when i travel. With warmer weather i hope to be sitting outside every evening once the kid is in bed, sitting by the fire pit, smokin it up with a drink in hand...what better way to end a day!!!

Before i joined this board in Jan i was an intermittent smoker. Mostly smoked on weekends in warm weather. Over the winter i was getting in one maybe 2 a week.

It's on now. I'm picking up around 30 sticks a week from online sales, trades and B&M purchases. I've run out of room and am now storing my sticks in tupperware and those heavyduty dry ice stryofoam coolers. They work great and they can hold 75-100 cigars. They hold humidity really well too.

I gotta get a cabinet so i can start buying boxes.

Monday thru Friday, one every evening. Saturday and Sunday, 2 or 3 each day. And yeah, I do not have any physical dependence on cigars and could walk away if need be. But damn, I would miss it!!

Since I am (primarily) smoking such long cigars and I take a lot of time while smoking (a puff a minute or more, enjoying the fragrances at various points along the length of the stick constantly), I find half a double lasts 45 minutes or longer, about all the time investment I can afford this hobby. After that time, I purge any remaining smoke from inside the cigar, let the fire die a gentle death, nudge off the ash when cool and carefully store the leftover half to relight the next day. It seems I lose no flavors upon the subsequent light-up. I also love the half burnt smell of the stick as I am storing it (in a specially designed mini-humi-holder I built, away from my unsmoked cigars.)

I overcame a bad addiction to cigarettes 19 years ago, so know what a nicotine craving is like. Since I do not inhale cigars (plus the fact that they don't contain ADDED nicotine, as cigarettes do) I feel no physical cravings for stogies at all. If I never smoked them again, I would not physically miss a cigar, but I would miss the relaxing immersion into nature's intimacy that these marvelous constructions afford.

I average 1 or 2 a week, and these days I'm pretty lucky if I even get that. Work sure is busy. But come summer, I'll probably be smoking more often.

2 a day during the week, smaller cigar after lunch, larger cigar after dinner. 3 on weekends, I add a morning smoke with coffee if time permits. 5 is the most I've ever smoked in one day, didn't have any desire a cigar the next day!
