I prefer guillotine to scissors, and IMO Palio is the best. If you really want scissors, you are probably going to need to up your budget, the SAK Wegner are nice and pocket size, but over $100, I have a pair of Davidoff scissors that are nice and work great, but they are over $200. I have found cheap scissors pretty much suck...Triple refined butane is what you put in the torch lighters, for under $50 the blazer is good, I like my dupont XTend, I think it was $130, but my Corona Old Boy is the best lighter I have ever had(not torch).

Huge vote for the blaser micro torch. Mine has lasted me more than a decade. looks like hell now, but still very reliable!

Cutter I've go Xikar cutter and punch and like both alot, don't know how they compair to the Pailo, I don't have that one.

Guillotine cutter for me. The scissor cutters I've used seem to pinch the cigars rather than cutting them.
Another thought, I believe the palio has a lifetime guarantee.

I think guillotine and Palio for the cutter. The Grainger torch is a bit, er, big for most people's pockets. If you decide on a Xikar lighter, I would stay away from the Executive just because it runs out of fuel very quickly and its finish isn't exactly durable. Personally, I have run into some quality control issues with new Blazer lighters, as have several of my friends, so I can't recommend them any more.

If you really want to go whole hog, one of the best and most prestigious lighters around is the Dupont X-tend, but they range in price from about $100 (when you can find a special sale) to about $200.

One more thought on lighters: A lot of us use Zippo lighters, replacing the regular lighter fluid insert with a Z-plus butane torch insert. You can buy the insert for $10-15, so the total cost is that plus whatever the particular Zippo that you choose costs. Or maybe he already has a Zippo that you can just update.

Re: fuel, that should be at LEAST triple filtered, and 5X is better than 3X. Sorry for what may be information overload.. :lookaroun

Yes, definite information overload. My head is spinning but I am determined.
I think Palio guillotine cutter is the favorite and I'm leaning towards that. The blazer torch lighters look a bit intimidating but seem to be liked, i'm still working on that one. And with the quality control issues...anyone know of a lighter that has a lifetime guarantee?

Cigarmony or CIgar Solutions are your best bet for the Palio or Xikar cutters. I have both type, but prefer my Palio. As for the lighters, I am a Dupont Xtend lighter fan. A little more money, but lasts and works awesome!

Xikar cutter is a very good and nice looking cutter. It is a little different than your standard guillotine. An excellent gift. Matched with the Xikar lighter and you have a very nice gift.

Palio is a top notch guillotine cutter. I have three. When I go to herfs and smokers though, I take my Xikar. 2 cents

Palio for the cutter.

Torch lighter means the strong flame opposed to the soft flame you get from something like a Bic lighter. I would suggest sinking the money into the Palio and going cheap with the torch lighter and filling it with triple refined fuel if you are on a budget.

I have several cutters, including both the Xikar and a Palio models that you're comparing, and I can say without a doubt that the Palio is my most reliable, best-cutting cigar cutter. I use it 10 times as often as my Xikar.

BUT...

From the perspective of a "gift" then you really ought to seriously consider the Xikar cutter, in particular, the Xi with the aluminum body ($59). It just "looks" fancier, and honestly it does cut better than just about anything else out there except a Palio or the SAK (a knife cutter), so it's no slouch of a cutter. *PLUS* it has a lifetime full replacement warranty *AND* it comes in a really nice gift-quality box. The gift presentation value of the Xikar is, in my opinion, greater than the Palio.

ALSO:

If you're looking at that Xikar cutter, I'd also suggest getting a Xikar lighter as well. I have an "Executive" and it's very affordable ($25), looks great, and of course had the lifetime warranty--something that is likely to come in VERY handy on a lighter. And like that Xikar cutter, it too comes in a gift-quality box.

And finally, I too recommend ordering from Cigarmony or Cigar Solutions.

BTW...I think that the fact you jumped on a cigar forum like this to ask about a gift for your husband is way, way, way cool!

Like I said... Go with Xikar, everything has a lifetime warranty and their customer service is second to none. The Xikar has an aluminum body and will put up with a lot more torment than the palios (plastic body) and I love the cut. The lighter will work every single time he clicks the button for years to come. Xikar products are also what I believe to be the most stylish. Just my two cents.
