I picked one up at a semi-local B&M... it started ok. then got worse. I couldn't finish it - it was that bad. I really think that it was too fresh & the humidity was too high in the store. I have complete faith in Pete & Pepin & will definitely try again after I get a few to rest in the hudifier at a lower %.
Right now the problem is that I have no room...
Life is good.

Personally, I was shocked to find just how different the La Riqueza cigars are in comparison to the Tatuaje line -- so much more a radical departure than the Cabaiguan line was. I can La Riqueza appealing to a totally different audience of cigar smokers than the Tatuaje line.

I've smoked several now, and while I like it a lot, I still haven't come completely to grips with how different this cigar was to my expectations. I guess I didn't think that dark Connecticut Broadleaf would alter that typical Nicaraguan-puro cigar flavor so much. I mean, the shade grown Connecticut wrapper on the Cabaiguan didn't make this much of a change...so it's gotta be the way the filler was blended, right?

Pete did an expert job creating this cigar, and obviously Pepin made them as well as anyone in the world possibly can make cigars. But I'm going to smoke a few more before I do a formal review myself--you know, to just get over this initial shock!

I totally agree! Except the "G" in God should be capitalized.

But yes, the LA Ricky's are a freakin' fantastic smoke. Pete was gracious enough to give me a handful at the show, I've yet to smoke one since I got home as we won't get ours in at the shop for a couple months. I'll have one tomorrow when I go to work though. Damn fine smoke.

That's unbelievable!

These are by far the best regular-production stick out there!
The CT broadleaf wrapper is outstanding.

And to everybody who has smoked these -- do you exhale a bit of the smoke through your nose? These cigars are a million times better if you do, and there's no ligero in them so it's not harsh at all.

I had the torpedo size and it was good smoking. My buddy gave me one at Old Allegheny Shops. Can't wait for the next one.

Dave - I will bring some to San Diego. You have to try this cigar. Jeeper - PM me you addy and I will send you a few. Time to order a few more boxes as the first three are smoked or gifted. Wade is right that they are very different from the standard Tatuaje but man does not live on bread alone. These are a real treat.

You should really try the No.2 size or the No.1 if you have tried the no.5 and are still on the fence about this cigar. The no.5 was a little young tasting but the blend of the no.1 and no.2 is a better experience of the cigar right now.

In fact when I lit up the No.1 I though I had just lit up a RASS or 898 for a second.

Smooth, creamy, full body, medium strength, and really nice flavor. I was pleasantly surprised. I will buy these for sure.

In what way are they so drastically different?

Wade, I know just what you mean! But I reserve the cap "G" exclusively for someone else:grin:

Thanks for the tip! I`ll try that on the next one.

I`ll wait until I`ve met you in person before I make up my mind on that one. FWIW, many of the finest individuals I`ve known were dogs... some literally - some figuratively.

In what way are they so drastically different?
IMO...

The Corojo-wrapped Tatuaje is extremely bold and spicy with heavy black pepper notes, while the Connecticut Broadleaf wrapped La Riqueza has very little of that kind of heavy pepper and spice, instead providing a thick, rich earthy flavor.

In addition, I'd say that the Tatuaje is more flavorful in the back-of-the-throat and through the nose, whereas the La Riqueza delivers more of its flavors on the tongue.

BUT...

Don't quote me on that because I haven't done a formal sit-down review of the La Riqueza yet, so I could easily change my mind about those kind of details later. :smokingbo
