  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Some things I have realized...

Couple points I did like to discuss since officially joining a few days ago..

First of all I realize I shoudn't be up this late but after a 13 hour shift I just need an hour or two of unwind time.

Secondly(in reading this forum for the last few weeks before joining), I realize it is only a matter of time before my no-smoking-in-the-house ban is probably going to be lifted, mostly likely when it cools down and I can put a box fan in the doorway.

Third thing I realized is how little I know about cigars. I don't yet have a refined palate that can spot on, pick up on the subtleties(and yes I read Marks' well written article, as well as many others here). Still picking up on the "lingo", but that hasn't been a problem. There has been many a mention of cigars and things I know nothing about.

Finally the fourth thing I realized is that it really doesn't matter. I'm here because I have an affection for stogies like everyone else here. You brothers(and sisters I assume:dance:) seemed to be a well educated and easy going group when it comes to cigars and I am looking forward to learning more.

So basically just wanted to share some random thoughts I had in reading the forum, probably too late for a smoke......

Mac,

Join the club...the only taste I can describe is the one after I smoke! Ahhh the joy's of being single I can smoke inside, or drive/bike 3-5 mins and smoke at the B&M without having to ask for permission.

I've been buying lots of singles and 5'ers to find out what I like the best. I've even got a few cubanos I bought from the LCDH at a mall in bahrain.

You nailed it there bro.. it really doesn't matter and the brotherhood doesn't hold grudges. I've been smoking for almost 10 years now and I still need to go back and look things up once in a while... life's too short to worry about knowing everything but its perfect for enjoying a good smoke.

Well for me I am now after 10+ years smoking cigars, on and off and really smoking and getting involved and taking my time with them. I can now pick out nice peppery flavors, Creamy flavors, but I still can not do the review like others have. Some folks just have a better palate to pick up suttle diffrences in smokes. I JUST SMOKE AND ENJOY MY TIME!!!

Enjoy!

Any particular reason why?

I've been smoking cigars for years and I don't smoke in my house.

No porch on the house, left to stand outside on the 4 foot wide uncovered "deck"(more of a walkway) out back, great view of the marsh, but if you put a chair out there and sit down it blocks the view as the fence is about 4 feet high and I felt like I was sitting in a closet the one time I tried it. I think the thing that keeps me from partaking at times is the fact that after a long day I don't always feel like standing up for 1.5 hours straight, hence the reason I have been pondering smoking in the house giving me the ability to relax a little more.

Get a barstool (or a high table and stools) for your deck. That way you can sit down and look out at the view. Or go for a walk (that's what I do when I smoke unless I go to the B&M).

Hear, hear. And, in case ye dislike the idea of having cigar smell in yer whole house but nontheless ye decide to smoke in, there's always the smoking room option...

I don't smoke in the house or car but I always make the best of the location I smoke in. I have a poll and the deck area is always set up for cigar smoking. In the few months during the winter when smoking outside is not realistic, I have a table and chairs with TV and sounds set up in the work-shop but let me say this. It has to be pretty bad for me to not be out by the pool.

No sooner than I posted earlier I thought about that, I was sitting on a bar stool the time I went out there but it is not a "high" bar stool(well on some occasions it is:skew:) need to go by the box hardware store this weekend and see what I can come up with. As a 6'0" 200+ pounder it has to be comfy as well.

Smoking in the house kinda sucks. It stays with you long after the fond memory is gone. I like your post and agree. Its all good. I smoke cigars for the sheer enjoyment.
