  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

SCHIP is rearing its ugly head again. With the new power balance, we all need to fight, get involved in a grass roots manner and stay involved.

Listed below is a website for the US Senate and House of Representitves. Call, write, email, get petitions going at your local Brick and Motar and have locals sign it along with their addresses and DOB.

Make sure you have the proper districts so the petitions go to the proper Representitves where the Cigar shops are located. We need to attack this ASAP and let our voices be heard. This is serious and our so called Government is not looking out for us, the industry, the local shops which will all vanish and most of all the Third World Countries that will be ruined such as The DR, Honduras, Nicaragua, and most of the growing nations, i.e. Ecuador and even the US. This would cost us even more since we would have to provide aid to these countries down the road. If they don't abandon the SCHIP bill it will cost us American tax payers even more in the long run.

If anyone does not think that this one will not pass now, they are very mistaken. The only way WE can stop it is by becoming vocal and staying on our elected officials. Remember, they are supposed to vote the way we want them to vote, not their own decisions.

And it is never too late!

I'm on it, I should be able to get a few hundred signatures. Any suggestions on what else I can do locally (or even not locally) to keep this from happening?
Showing the comunity that smokers aren't the inconsiderate selfish bastages they think. Get a group of smokers together and do some voluntary work (never hiding ye smoke) and then asking for what ye deserve. Though read yer stuff before so as to not be caught off guard.

I read this on Wikipedia. Is this exactly how it is going to impact us?

"The expansion of the SCHIP program was to have been funded by increasing the federal excise tax 6000% on cigars, 700% on rolling tobacco, and 160% on cigarettes, rolling papers, cigarette tubes, snuff, chewing tobacco, and pipe tobacco".

Sadly it took a veto from Bush to knock this down and I don't see that happening this go around. In it's current form of 53% tax hike with a cap of 3dollars we could see a 3 dollar price hike across the board. Best case scenario the cap is lowered to 1 or 2 but this bill will probably pass. I feel bad for retailers who will get hit hard on their current inventory. That said we can and still should put up a fight and let our voices be heard.

I suggest participating in Cigar Rights. Membership fees will go towards fighting this dreaded taxation.

There is a lot of places that the governing body can draw the funds. Look at all the wasted funds from turnabouts, high-end remodels of goverment facilities, useless upgrades widespread through out the goverment.

If you ask me, They have overspent enough without realizing the need for proper care for children and are trying to get us to shoulder their guilt. Fugg'em

Would someone be willing to write up a petition that members could print out and give to thier local b&M's. My b&m has a piece of paper on the counter listing what could happen if it passes, but nothing on how to provent it from happening.
