  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey everyone,

Hard at work over here at Cigar Hunnies, and I wanted to put together a list of some of the smaller, less known cigar companies. We all know CAO, Padron, etc, but what about some of the small ones like Taboo and such?

I think having a list of these smaller companies that make killer smokes would be a great resource!

I'll start a list. Expect to be modified frequently. Let's put only brands not owned by swedish match, altadis, general tobacco, etc. Are padron, fuente appropriate? What about a cigar like Mi Dominicana (boutique-like production and presentation but owned by altadis?) Silo cigars is kind of the go-to retailer for "boutique" brands.

I added some more brands. I'll start adding hyperlinks to the brands to link to the companys' websites (where available) for easy reference. There are so many tiny brands so I think it's best to only list those with some kind of reputation.

I haven't added tatuaje or illusione partially because they are relative giants compared to most of the list, and partially because I'm not sure how to organize (for example, should la riqueza, cabaiguan, el triunfador be listed under tatuaje?)

Come to think of it, does anybody find this list useful? It seems cool to me, but I don't need to make a list for myself.

Seriously, there is an ass load. Check out the IPCPR website for a complete list of retailers for the last trade show. They also give you links to their websites.

PS - I think Kristoff is part of Executive Cigars.

Fair enough - but how many of them have any reputation to speak of? I think the preponderance of small cigar companies is what makes compiling a "short list" worth doing - to separate the what from the chaff for those who want to venture outside the major brands without it being a total crapshoot.

Padron is hardly a "boutique" brand though. Tatuaje and Illusione, they might qualify, although they are pretty f'ing huge compared to El Titan De Bronze, for example.

Good points everyone. There is boutique and then there is boutique boutique.

As to the other point made, the beauty of the boutique is that there is always something special around the corner. Boutiques have the luxury of incredible small batch releases of exceptional tobacco and cigars that are too small for the big guys.

It's harder to define a boutique than it is a giant. The Giants are really just a hanful of companies:

General and Altadis make up over 80% of the market (don't quote me on that) and the rest really compete for the remainder. Although I would agree that Fuente is probably third...
