the main hygro is a digital, and is usually close to what the analog reads (both had the salt test a couple months ago). The non-plugged ones smoke great. They burn well which points to not being over humidified, but they don't taste dry either.

That's really awackward that they burn like they should, which indicates -+ the right humidity, but you have some that are just too tight...
What's the humidity on the Island like? That might just be getting trapped in your humi long enough to do the damage.
When you open it, the humid air goes in, and stays in till the cigars absorb it... and the inner leaves over expand (maybe).

If you are not using heartfelt beads, I would suggest you pick some up, as they seem to be the easiest way to control humidity. Activate about 3/4 of them, and leave 1/4 just to absorb excess humidity, just in case it really is wayyy too humid on the island.

yeah, i've been planning on getting some of these when I get up to the states. This will take away a lot of my headache.

Try this...Sometimes a cigar will swell slightly in your humi for a variety of reasons (usually when a new box is placed in the humi after travel or after resting in a different RH than your humi) However, even though the cigar swells, the band remains taught and basically constricts the cigar. When I first heard of this I thought 'no way', but try taking the band off....In some cases it wroks like a charm.

Moro is correct. My "draw enhancer" is a Zebra F-301 with a 1/8 drill bit epoxied to the lower barrel. I also popped out the actuator on top, removed the guts of the actuator so the drill bit could be longer. The actuator is then also placed back on top and epoxied.
