  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Question for all my Tatuaje friends???

So most of you know that Tim from Famous has challenged me to a fight to take away my sales title that I hold after the my event with them in February. Basically a marketing thing to help promote their event in June. I though it was silly but funny enough that I would play along.
Here's my dilemma. I have received emails, pm's and comments on other boards all saying how I should not be part of lame circus marketing like this. I am curious to get your opinions. This is a great board and I trust the opinions of many of you. So, fire away........

Personally, I don't find it to be a good promotion. If anything, it detracts from both brands.

If it's all for marketing I say back out of a fight. Make it a smoking contest or something. Your cigar brand speaks volumes of quality and consistency. I think this is reverberating as a parlor trick. You don't need that. BOTL & SOTL of the leaf respect you, don't take any chances!

Go for it. Nothing wrong with a little testosterone coming out now and then. This country is getting too soft as it is.

Have fun!

I agree 100%. You are a class individual with a well-respected, top-notch product. I don't see how this sort of promotion can add to your image at all; it certainly can detract from it.

unless he can sell tons of cigars for you I don't see the point. your brand is so good because you make cigars we enjoy. no need to fight him. he is the one with his undies stuck up his ass. keep making cigars and we will buy them.

but you're man enough to decide if you feel it would help your sales, and if it would, well, knock him out

Here is a recent thread on this, where people expressed thier opinions on it. [ame="http://www.botl.org/community/forums/showthread.php?t=26007"]Pete vs Tim (from Famous) - BOTL Cigar Forums - Brothers of the Leaf[/ame]

I personally feel it seems some are questioning the reasoning behind this. The way it is presented at face value is(according to the site promoting the "fight"): You backed out of a verbal agreement, Tim talked some trash and now you are going to fight. Seems a little "school yard" to some. The second way some people see it is that it is just marketing hype.

I for one like to watch a good fight so I'd be down to watch if you guys are really going to duke it out. But in the end for the brand and the shop it seems to me the outcome of this will be less than positive. It won't change my opinion of either you or the shop, just probably a marketing strategy that should have recieved better thought. I thought it was a good idea Friday night to get naked and jump in the fountain at the City Center, but come Saturday morning I was glad I didn't do it....

I can't say that it will have any effect whatsoever on my continued enjoyment of your cigars. So while it wouldn't have any harm from my perspective, I don't really see what you would possibly have to gain from it. Generally speaking I'm in favor of people not taking themselves too seriously, but if I had a vote on this one I'd say don't do it. Seems a little over the top.

This would make for a good poll.

Pete,

You and your cigars don't have anything to prove. You have worked your ass off and it would be stupid to lower yourself to circus antics.

Just my $.02

I don't really like the idea either, let Camacho be the attention whore and stick with what you do best.

Honestly, I think it's funny and kind of gay. :rolling:

You know, obviously anyone with brain knows it's a promotional/marketing event--the difficult part is determining how much credit goes to either Famous or Tatuaje. From the general looks of the materials, it seems like it's mostly a Famous-thing (especially considering the Camacho logo on everything) but obviously you're involved in SOME manner since you're right there on the poster.

So is there some confusion about the marketing angle of it? Probably.

But I don't think it'd be wise to back out of it now; that'd just make you look like a complete pussy. You committed to it, so stick to it.

Just maybe think more carefully about this kind of shit in the future, fam. :cbig:

When I read about it, It seemed funny... and all in fun. Then as I read more I was like "man, this is kinda stupid..."

I think it takes away from both brands, like someone already mentioned.
Having a contest of some sort would be fun... A fight... not so much. It makes it seem a bit high schoolish... :scratchhe

Go with your gut... I wont judge... as a matter of fact, If I lived in the area, my ass will be front row. As you might have read on the other thread, I was thinking it should have been an MMA bout instead of boxing. A straight knee to the face will "un-gay" anything that seems gay.. It seems like you like Tim, so Im sure you dont want to knee him in the face.

Personaly, I dont think it will hurt or help. That's like adding a dunktank at one of your events and charging $5 a ball with a sign: "Dunk Pete Johnson and win a free Tatuaje Cigar" It will be a hoot at first, but when everything is said and done, you are all wet and the B&M has given away most of their Noellas. Hope this helps.

I'll see you in Orlando!

I would say it's worth it Pete if it is some kind of CHARITY event and not purely a marketing thing for Famous (nothing against them, they're great). If you could raise money for a charity to, say, help out all the unemployed people in the US right now or something like that, then it's cool.

Any amount of hype and cheese is acceptable for a charity event. But for a marketing event...that's up to you. If you think it would be fun either way...they heck, do it. Who cares, it's not like people wont' smoke your stuff because you did something cheesy.

I saw do what ur gut says Pete! I know that this is a good chance to get some exposure and promote the line. Will it change my thought process on your product....hell no! I love ur sticks for their taste and quality...not the hype (well maybe a little influence from my fellow BOTLs).
In the end you have made a pretty sucessful cigar brand by doing things the way you want them...so trust your gut and do what is best for you and your brand! Hope this helps! Nick

I would say pass on the fight since it seems kind of silly. Everyone knew it was a marketing ploy as soon as it hit the net. I say sponsor some kind of poker tournament or some other kind of event.
