  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Is it true?

I was at the local walk in today picking up a few new sticks to try out and happened upon the couple boxes of opus x's. I didn't get them because I felt they were a little overpriced. (16.25 for a petite lancero, 20.00 for one that was maybe 6X46 or so) Am I right that they were overpriced? I really don't know market price for these bad oscars. Anyways, the lady who runs the shop was telling me that the Ashton VSG's are the exact same cigar in terms of wrapper, binder, and filler mix as the opus. I picked one up as they were much cheaper than the opus's and I've heard that they are very good, but I wasn't sure if I believed the lady.

No it is not true. (Although the Ashton VSG Estate Reserve uses the Opus X rosado wrappers.)

But, the VSG is a pretty good stick...So enjoy it :)

Thanks Brooks, I thought it was a little far fetched. I wanted to try it anyways as I've heard it's one of the only Ashtons worth the trouble. By the way, I love your website. I'm on it all the time.

I am not sure about the prices they seem high but that may be CA tax. They are not the same blend as VSG. Opus's are incredible VSG's are good.
Yeah, that shop is overpriced anyway. I've had a couple of opus's and they were awesome. I'm looking forward to the vsg anyway.

If my b& m had prices like that on Opus X I would be a happy camper. They sell here for about $30 to $40 per stick! I have only had one.

Now if she had sold you an ESG 21 gun you'd certainly be in for a treat!

Living in the same state I can tell ya that that is pretty much the price in this defunct state. Taxes suck.
No doubt. I like to support my local vendors, but when you can go to CI or famous and get the same thing for half in most cases (not opuses I realize) it's hard to say no. My local spot just started a membership program with 10% discounts which is nice. It's a start.

Those of you that have never been to Casa Fuente don't know what an over priced Opus is. If my memory is correct, about the cheapest you'll find one there is $35, and the highest single is $125

Tobacco Road is doing 35% off between 10am and 2pm right now, but of course I work 6:30am to 5pm and nowhere near there. I tried the Opus Lancero and although it tasted fantastic I was not too fond of the feeling it gave me. I am fine with the Power Range but that one messed me up. All told I would rather stick with a good Tat or a MoW Ruination for the lesser price.

I think that the DC Maximus line has Opus filler/binder, but I can't remember. I know one of the Ashton/DC lines were essentially Opus with a different wrapper.
