I have been reading about other peoples wine coolers. I have now purchased two Haier wine coolers. They are perfect for humidors since they are tall and narrow. The fit cedar trays that you can order off the internet. They cost about $10 apiece. The coolers run $175 at Lowes. I bought one a year ago and my wife agreed to the new one last month. They hold about 400 cigars and now working on filling both up.

I almost bought two of those a while back... I like the tall and narrow aspect... lots of separate storage spaces.

Hey Mike I like the units also. I believe I met you at the King and then we went to Fumars. If I'm correct or it was someone else from here. Robert

I was pondering your trays... I think that is the closest to "plug and play" that you can get with those trays.

To eliminate the wine racking... if you wanted to... you could easily drill a 1/4 inch hole in each corner of the tray just above the slats... pointing out to the side. Take a 1/4 inch dowel just the right width to slide into your grooves... insert through the tray (front holes, back holes...2 dowels per tray) and viola! you have cheap runners that create a neat slanted display when pulled 2/3rds out... the dowel would pivot. (picture an old soapbox car with just axles)

OK ok, enough of my tray geekdom... we now return you to your regularly scheduled admiration of coolidors.

BesstR: Can you post the model #? Looks quite promising. I just picked up an Emerson 12 bottle and find the configuration a bit limiting. Trays don't fit well and the only means of really gettings things organized is ordering custom trays and/or drawers.

jjon90 has the right model number. The trays came from cheaphumidors. I have a pound of beads in the units. The units cycle on and off often to cool. So it keeps the air well circulated. I am going to try the dowels like Mike said. Right now the trays just sit on the racks that came with it. I forgot the beads are in long glass bowls I purchased from walmart.

Man, that is a great price. Do you have any fans to keep the air moving? What are you using for a humidification device?

That is definately a sweet set-up!

As you could already tell, Mike (Mav) is serious about his cigars and storage....but what the heck, aren't we all! :cbig:

I have no fans in there just the fans the are in the unit. It cycles on and off often to move the air. I use beads I believe a pound on the bottom and in the middle of the unit in shallow glass trays that I bought at wal mart.

These must be very popular units because most of the online vendors are "Out of stock" however many reviewers say they have been konking out early.
How long have your been up and running?

One over a year and I just got the new one. Buy it at Lowes they should take anything back if you would to have problems. Since I keep the temperature turned all the way up there should not be a problem. So far they run fine I did have a problem at first. I had it completely filled with trays. It did not let the air circulate and they froze up. But I just have trays on the wire shelves and everything is fine.

Hey Rob, how far open do you have to have the doors, to pull the racking forward and out?

This is the most common issue we see with installing drawers into some of the "off sized" fridges.

For example, some have to be open way more than 90 degrees in order for the racks (drawers) to clear the door. Others like the majority of vinotemps, leave plenty of clearance with the door open to 90 degrees. Thought I'd toss it outthere before you run with any modifications.

Also, I am interested in the clearance issue for these specific coolers now for personal reasons... :)

Thanks buddy.

That's what I was afraid of... careful with your modifications in that case, my suggestion might frustrate you more than it is worth.
