  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Brand New Box of Gran Cojonu's - Disappointed

I won a box of Tat Gran Cojonu's on CB and received them in the mail yesterday. I opened the box to take a peek (excited as this was my first box purchase) and I noticed that the foot on nearly every cigar was cracked. Some not so bad, but others had pieces flaking off. From the middle of the cigar all the way to the head was fine, just significant cracking at the feet.

Anyone ever run into anything like this? I wouldn't think this would be common with Tat's. Maybe a storage issue with CB? Maybe just a fluke? I think they'll smoke OK, but I just don't feel that pumped about my first box of Tat's. I also don't want the entire box to fall apart as soon as I start smoking them.

I'm debating contacting CB to see what my options are. What do you guys think?

i've seen a lot of gc's in stores that have some foot problems. never dealt with cb so don't know how they are about things. don't think they'll effect the smoke, but see what others have to say.

I would contact them if for nothing else to let them know what condition the cigars were in when you recieved them. That may prompt them to check there remaining inventory to see if more boxes are damaged.

Can you post some pictures of the damage?

They should smoke fine. The wrapper is put on from foot to cap so they shouldn't unravel or anything. Definitely talk to the vendor. They may replace them or do something else to keep you satisfied.

Most everytime Ive won a CB auction, the sticks have been in not so great condition, the reason I just buy from real dealers now.

Some from the foot to the middle? I'd 100% contact cbid. And I have before. They'll either refund/return or exchange normally.
That sucks. Sorry.

Contact cbid. It doesn't hurt to do so.

In my experience, they are pretty good about righting wrongs...

every other box of gran cojonus we open, at least half the box has foot damage, if not up the first two inches of the cigar. The shag foot doesn't help the situation...

The worst that can happen is you inform them of the issue and they say they can't help you, I've never delt with them personally so I don't know what their policy is but who knows, they might even replace them or send you compensation

Contact Cbid. I have had issues with orders in the past but they have always corrected the problem. They will most likely exchange boxes or refund your money.

Thanks for the replies! I sent them a message, so I'll let you know what happens.

Like I said, I think they'll smoke fine, but it just wasn't the first thing I thought I would see opening up a new box of Tat's. I'm really looking forward to trying them with the newer ligero wrapper. The past ones I had were with the viso wrapper and I loved those!

CB packaging is some of the worst in the industry, but their customer service is some of the best. Call them and ask for a replacement box, and they'll ship it out to you on Monday!

When did the Gran Cojonu get a new wrapper? I hadn't heard that. So do they have the same wrapper as the other Cojonu now?

I'm no expert, but just going by what I read in the "Cigar Guides" section of the forum. According to what Moro wrote, the wrapper changed in late 2005.

The only Gran Cojonu's I've had in the past came from my local, purchased some time ago, and had a reddish brown very smooth thin wrapper on it with hardly any veins. The sticks in this box have a much rougher and darker wrapper.
