Cigar Cutting...?

Good day Ladies, Gents...

Question - numerous cigars, various flavors, different rings & lengths. Does the way you cut it change or restrict draw and or taste? I was just thinking I use my v-cutter to keep the tobacco from my lips. but as you know it's a v-cut so its slimmer which I believe affects the draw. Right or wrong??

i found a v-cutter to be very nice except the tar build up due to the minimal slit in the end of the cigar.

Different cuts on different stick will indeed yield different experiences... from flavor, to volume of smoke, how it interacts with your palate, temperature, etc...

However, opinions and theory and preferences are all over the board on this, so you'll find answers may vary as wildly as each of our profiles do.

In my expereince, experimentation is the key. For me, a straight cut with my xikar or Palio is the best overall appraoch. (for MY preferences) But I will spice it up with punches, v-cuts, etc depending on mood.

My rule of thumb is rounded 46 RG and up, and belicoso/torpedo ends a straight slice with the palio works. Less than 46 RG I like to use a V.

Now I do just the opposite, I use the Xikar V-Cutter on the bigger ring gauge cigars so that "I" can control the flow of smoke from the cigar.

No matter what the RG is, I'll always use my Xikar cutter.

Noob alert:

What's been working pretty good for me so far is Xicar scissors for the torpedos, a punch for smaller RG's (under 50?) and a V cut for everything else. Straight cutting a parejo tends to make me overdraw, so I've learned to try to avoid doing that.

Another here with the Palio. On flat(ish) ends, regardless of size, I slice just the cap off before deciding whether or not to take a deeper bite. Belicosos/pyramids get a diagonal cut to increase surface area of the cut without taking too much of the cap.

Looks like I need to get a few more cutters xicar, Palio, scissors! I have one v cutter and a single blade cutter, I figured that to be true I guess you would really have to know what you working with cigar wise to judge how to cut it. I just want to get full satisfaction from my sticks! I think I'll grab a pair of scissors first, but I here from a few of the fellas that it's not that cut in dry you have to know how to use them?? Wink ~ Nah - with the scissor style you do have to handle them carefully; but they are easy to use...remember not to mess around, just make a quick, clean decisive cut, but it's easy to get the hang of it real quick.

yea, most folks don't know that diagonal trick with the torpedos. Good deal

Ditto!!...I like a nice smooth draw and I feel you only get that by cutting the cap off the head or atleast cut a good half an inch off if it's a torpedo.
