  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Can't comment on the buds, but most audifreaks I know hate Bose. No highs, no lows, just Bose. Not sure what the budget is, but I've heard great things about Shure earphones.

Funny this subject comes up today.

I just bought the "diddybeats" in-ear headphones.

They sound incredible, and come with about 8 different sets of earpieces

The best way to go no matter what ear buds you choose, you should get custom ear molds made. They will increase the quality of sound you get tremendously. I have them and swear by them.

As for the Bose ear buds, I have them, they were a present, I would not have bought them. They aren't bad but they lack focus and bass extension is below average.

I don't know what your budget is, but for 70 bucks you can get a set of sennheiser 502152 earbuds. A buddy of mine has them and they sound great.

What's your budget. I normally find Bose overpriced, but with more hesitancy than others.

But, the earphones are what did it for me. Buy Other Sound Equipment. Still love my 601s, but the earphones are absolute crap.

For $100 - thinksound rains, V-Moda Remix Remote (if you like a bit more bass), Etymotics for accuracy
For $300 - Shure SE420/Westone UM2 - comes down to some subjectiveness at that point, I'm liking the former's sound signature more and more everyday.
Everything else - custom molds and completely subjective, I'm a sure fanboy, but the JH's are sick.

Yeah... my other hobby is expensive.

Shure's are the shit! They are expensive, but for less money, Etymotic are DAMN good. And they cost $100

I'm telling you, you will not be disappointed in them.

Bose, in my experience have always been overrated in relation to their cost, be their speakers, wave radio, whatever.

Shure seems to have all new models at this point. I had two separate sets of Shure earbuds. One was a white pair I think they were like $60 and they were great until they right ear but stopped playing music, it was strange. Then I bought a pair of the black ones which were a step or two higher but not the highest. They were even more awesome, but again only until the right earphone stopped working. Mind you it took somewhere between 1yr and 2yrs for them to screw up. I was still not happy as I dislike buying stuff unless necessary and it should have not been necessary at that point. I might sock a little cash a way to buy a new pair in the future now they they look redesigned.

I tried the Shure, didn't like them. I tried one of the Bose 2-years ago, didn't like them (I think there is a new one). I settled on the Etymotic 6i ... http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6i.aspx

Great bang for the buck, and to me the best sound south of $300. The only "love/hate" thing is that they are basically earplugs--they go WAY into your ears. I don't mind that, and love the nearly 100% sound isolating effect (amazing on an airplane!).

EDIT: Just saw that Greg posted the same link, lol! These really are great buds.

I had a pari of Sennheiser px200's that I really liked but they finally quit working after 2 years. I am able to listen to my ipod at work so I will get my use out of them. I prefer headphones to earbuds but was thinking of trying the Bose earbuds.

I will check out the other headphones suggested here. Thanks to all for the advice.

I bought a pair of shure a few years back. They were a couple hundred bucks. They weren't the highest end, but not the lowest either. Sounded nice, but I could not get the damn things to stay in my ears. I tried all of the ear piece options. I always meant to get the custom molds but never did. Guess I have wierd ears.

I think I am going to order a pair. I see they have a 30 day return policy so it won't hurt to give them a try. Thank you and everyone else again. I will post an update after I get them and try them for a couple of day.

I'm a shure fan too & the custom in-ear pieces cannot be beat - the isolation is the single best thing you can do for audio clarity (not to mention comfort).

The Etymotic has a good rep - you can get them on Amazon for <$70.

I used to be an engineering tech at Bose...and still hate em...lol (if you can't tell by my profile name). Not sure what the price of the earbuds are, but I picked up the Shure SCL5's that I use with my drums for like $220 brand new a couple years ago. It's just a matter of calling some shops to get the real price...that they can't advertise.

Just burned through my second pair. Bose replaced the first pair for free, but this is ridiculous. They must use the cheapest wiring system possible where the wires meet the plug, both times the problem has been there. Oh well, gonna trash them and pick up something else. I would advise against them after this

I can personally recommend Jerry's earpieces at:

www.jhaudio.com

I use his aviation earpiece, the VX3 and they're unmatched. Go to the site and find one that fits in your budget. You won't be disappointed. You'll have to go to an audiologist and get earmolds made and send them in. Professional musicians use his earpieces. He started off as a sound engineer for Van Halen and cofounded Ultimate Ears before he spun off his own company, so he definitely understands sound reproduction.

Regards
Randy

Great work... but in audiophile territory... I rarely use my 16s outside of my house.

Well, I just got my Etymotics er6i as I ordered them yesterday. Just listening to 2 songs, Eminem and Seven Avengedfold I really like the sound. I read that it takes some hours to break them in and hopefully I won't have any ear soreness issues.

Thanks very much for the recomendation!!
