  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

just bitching

men don't whine, we bitch. First off.

Second off, it's cold outside. I live in Oakland and it's cold outside. And I want a cigar. Even know which one I want. I have a Havana VI or a Vegas Robaina I am hunkering for and I wanna smoke them now.

Well the Cuban needs to be stacked against a Don Cervantes actually but I want a cigar. Iv'e worked all day. I can suffer a little cold, right?

What say you, fellow BOTL? I have to go outside, cause GF is asthmatic so I can smoke my pipe inside or a cigar outside...

Brave the cold! I do it all winter here in ontario, long as you bundle up you'll be fine, I find a decent space heater helps out quite a bit if you can find one on the cheap

It's about 30 degrees right now. New England can be a bitch.

I wouldn't smoke inside even if I could. That smokey smell is damn near impossible to get out.

no ability to smoke with a space heater, I'd be on the front steps of our apartment building.

But so far, it's looking like I should get dressed and grab that Tat.

If you don't mind smoking away from home find a club to join. My town has several. Basically just a place where men can hang out and watch sports and drink and smoke etc. Usually cost like under $50.00 for a year membership.

That's a good idea. I'm in Oakland so I could or should be able to find or form one easily I'd think. Wonder, there's that lounge at Tobacco Road, wonder how I could work this out...

He sells cigars (JMG International stocks the humidor) but that's not his primary business as a convenience store. Have to look around and do some searching. And thinking. Oakland needs something other than the stuffy people at Piedmont Tobacconist and I can't go to Grants right now.

I'm grabbng my last VSG btw.

Usually cigar lounges can be expensive.

My father belongs to the Garibaldi Club in our town. I think its just like $35.00 a year for a membership. Basically its like a bar you have to have a membership to go to. Dollar beers, nice televisions, pool tables, darts, etc.

Just some sort of club or society.

I say go for it. I'm down in San Jose with the family right now, and I've been out twice for a cigar already. It wasn't too bad, just had a long sleeve shirt and a sweatshirt. Especially since you've got your cigar picked out and everything, seems like you already have one foot out the door :)

Cold? In Oakland? Man, I used to smoke outside in Wisconsin on days where it was cold enough to freeze the snot in my nose. :eyepoke:

Anyway, that said, find a B&M to smoke at. Dunno about Oakland, but I like Mission Pipe in Pleasanton. Buy something there (they have plenty of Tats and other goodies, and the prices are decent for CA), and then settle into a comfy chair to enjoy it.

Was back in Boston last weekend. Smoked every night outside. I smoked with friends so the conversation helped definitely. The last night I got a fire going in the fire pit which made it nice and toasty. Didn't even need gloves.

Layers, my friend. When I smoke cigars in the winter I will wear thermal pants underneath sweat pants, then I'll put on a pair of loose-fit cargo pants. Thermal shirt, long sleeve shirt, hoodie, down jacket. For the head, a beanie; for my feet - two pairs of socks and waterproof boots. Last but not least, a pair of gloves that are thin enough to allow you to cut and light a cigar comfortably, but thick enough to keep your hands warm. Again... layers.
