saltwater tanks

I know some brothers here have some info on this, seen your pics (Mthhurley and keinreis). We are trying to set one up for one of my daughters. Any info would be great.

Bigger = more stable water parameters. I recommend getting as big as you can afford / have space for. You have to decide if you want a fish only tank, a soft coral/fish or stony coral/fish setup.

I would say 4'x2'x18" as that is more standard sizing. Either way that is a good size.

If you think cigars are an expensive hobby, wait till you are knee deep in the world of Saltwater fish tanks. Which leads to a reef tank. Then you are really screwed. I had to get rid of mine a while back.

Well we have the tank, stand, and filter. We need to get a skimmer, salt water, live sand, and go from there. She has $500 to spend so far.

Its poisonous though, so not sure how it would get along with other fishies.

Nothing specific for saltwater tanks, but more a general recommendation from dealing with tanks for various things over the past several years. Don't skimp on equipment (filters, lights, skimmers, etc.), the extra buck is often worth it.

I had a 55g reef for about 4 years strong. It was amazing, unfortuneatly when my central ac broke last year I literally cooked the tank. nothing i could do about it but watch, heartbreaking. now the tank sits as an algae holder/breeder!!! Im going to break it down real soon and sell everything. I may get a whole system like a biocube or something, something small prob nano. its a great hobby but very time consuming and EXPENSIVE if you get hooked, which is what happens 99.9% of the time. with a 3yr and a 1yr old i have no time for a full reef nowanyways. good luck bro, pm if you have any questions.

well since everyone is talking reefs. Here is mine. and yes reef tanks can be costly compared to cigar hobby, but only on initial set-up.
