Ya know, I can't remember which comedian said it (Denis Leary?) but they were dead on.

If the "vegan" lifestyle is so great, why the %$#@ do they make everything look and taste like MEAT?

BocaBURGER, GardenBURGER, tofu HOT DOGS, tofu TURKEY, tofu CHICKEN, tofu STEAK, tofu FISH....come on now, WTF are you trying to prove?

Because meat is yummy! I love meat, began eating vegetarian about 1.5 years ago any analog I can find that almost tastes like meat is great. I just don't want my heart to explode and I have problems with moderation and some of the unsustainable methods used in meat production, but I won't bore y'all, yeah most of these people are nut jobs. To each their own right, I hate any type of lifestyle being shoveled down people's throats.

I grew up on a pig farm and the last 10 years I raised my own beef on my Father in Laws farm...I'll never give up meat. My cholesterol is LOW and my Dr. just shakes his head. I tell him I don't eat processed food except when I travel and I eat fresh meat that I know where it came from, how it was fed.

It does take some moderation, but you won't find a vegan substitute for my slow smoke ribs, pork shoulder or brisket. MMMMMMMM Meat!

Your argument shows you're on a completely different page than vegans and don't understand why we don't eat meat. Did you ever think "vegans" aren't the ones making things taste like meat...maybe it's the corporations trying to sell products? If people knew the truth about the meat they ate, they'd eat less of it. Not just because of ethical reasons, but because of how horrible the factory farming product is. Most meat is a garbage product. Not to mention, biologically we're not designed to subsist on such a meat-rich diet. There are so many reasons not to eat it, but people put their comfort ahead of everything. And we wonder why there's so much conflict within ourselves and in the world. From a biological standpoint, meat should be a side dish. We were hunter-gatherers for thousands of years and we didn't subsist on a diet with so much meat because it wasn't possible. We're almost biologically equivalent to our ancestors, too.

It's funny to me how carnivores are somehow offended by those who don't eat meat, even when they don't shove their beliefs down other's throats. Somehow the fact that vegans exist threatens their lifestyle...it's like the Christian right and gays. Not saying this relates to you in any way, it's just what I see from people. And it comes from both sides. A lot of vegans would rather cling to their beliefs and demonize everyone who eats meat rather than having a rational conversation with people. Nothing will ever be accomplished if we put our subjective and what might as well be randomly chosen beliefs ahead of everything. Beliefs lead to nothing but conflict; they never truly provide security, only pain in the end.

The key thing in your diet to why you're so healthy is unprocessed foods. Check out In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan for a great backstory on that. The Western diet aka heavily processed foods is extremely destructive on our bodies, the earth, and the world and it won't last long-term because it's not sustainable. That's just a fact you come to realize when you investigate how our food is produced.

Really well stated, thank you.

I added a little to that, too. The last thing I'm here to do is shove beliefs down anyone's throat, but often times the best of us don't bring an open mind to the table, we just cling to our beliefs. You can't see the ever-changing truth when you're clinging to something; it's not possible. I'll never tell anyone to not eat meat, just treat the animals with a modicum of respect. But, let's be realistic, most people in this world don't treat themselves with respect, so it's not surprising.

The truth is, most of the meat-substitues might make your heart explode in the end anyways lol. I'm not perfect, and I definitely don't consume enough fruits and vegetables still, but it's the truth. This boom in health problems falls inline with the boom in processed foods. Up until the mid 70's, a majority of the food we now eat wouldn't have even been called food! It would have been called imitation food. It literally had to be labeled that until the FDA gave into corporate pressure. But don't worry, this won't last forever. Things will change, as they always do, when our current way of life is no longer possible, and it's just a matter of time.

What it really came down to for me, was the inability to raise my own animal and kill it. If I couldn't kill it, I don't believe I have a right to eat it. These large farms really hurt my heart and makes me very much ashamed of humanity. I never understood until I saw it, I could never go back. My gal has been vegan most of her life and really showed me the harm I was doing as an individual supporting these practices.

You're awesome Brandon ! Thanks for caring so much. It really is quite horrifying and sad. But the amount of time it'll last is not even going to be a blip on the radar in terms of time of the world. Especially with how connected the world is becoming because of computers. That's the good thing.

My issue is this - Vegans who think they are "better" than everyone else because of the crap they shovel down their throats claiming it is "better for them and the environment".

Now seriously, pardon me for LMAO here, but you gotta be shittin' me?

....ON A CIGAR FORUM?

Where the average weight is around 250+ lbs? Where we delight in smoking cigar after cigar? Where we enjoy hanging around clouds of smoke?

COME ON! This is fuggin ridiculous!

I really don't care what anyone eats. But don't sit there trying to tell me how "what" you eat is "better for the body" and "better for the environment"...WHILE YOU ARE SMOKING A CIGAR!!!!

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

 I didn't mean this to be a vegan-bashing thread, just thought the controversy was funny. I was actually a vegetarian (not vegan though) for many years, and I've never liked being told what to eat or telling others what to eat.

To lighten things up, I had to do a google search to find the brand of fake hot-dogs the wife likes (vegetarian) and I decided to do an image search. Put in "veggie hot dogs" into Google image search and see what pops up. Pretty much safe for work. Who knew anyone related to PETA had such hot chicks?

Man did not rise to the top of the food chain so he could subsist on veggies alone and to say we're not equipped to subsist on an entirely meat diet (which I agree with), but then turn around and advocate a solely vegetarian or vegan diet is a bit ignorant in my opinion. I like meat. Don't have a problem with you if you don't as long as you don't have a problem with me eating a pile of bacon, a big fat juicy burger, or a fillet of catfish. Unfortunately I have met too many radical, nut job vegans and so my perception of you guys is probably a bit tainted. Even though I eat meat, I still have concerns about where it comes from. The best meat is either stalked, killed, and dressed yourself or raised and slaughtered yourself. That's not always possible so I try to buy meat from local farmers whenever I can. It just tastes better.
