  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I was very intrigued to read about this collaboration between Pepin and Davidoff. Maybe this will lead to a greater partnership (dare I say exclusive rights to produce all Davidoffs? hehe) in the near future.

I'm very curious as to what the flavor profile would be in this stick based on the description. I know Brooks has a review coming up this week... I'm looking forward to it as well.

We could see more BOTL's smoking Davidoffs... wouldn't that be something.

The collaboration is between My Father Cigars and the Davidoff Stores in New York, not Davidoff in general. The cigar they made is a Nicaraguan puro, while Davidoff cigars are Dominican. Totally different thing than My Father Cigars actually making a Davidoff banded cigar.

Price is like $8 a stick. The flavor profile is leathery with Pepper. I personally didn't find them overly powerful but did find them quite peppery. Not a bad stick at all. I'll sit on the rest of them and see how they age.

At that price point for a NY cigar - I would expect a mediocre house-brand stick, not a grand collaboration to get all worked up about.

If you want a good house-blend stick for a great price - check out our sponsor Atlantic's deal for BOTL!

Dang it! I should know better than to read this kind of stuff. Now I want some, have no room and have a long queue of cigars I need to smoke. Now those are quality problems.

$7 really surprises me because in most B&Ms in NY State, $7 buys you a St. Luis Rey Robusto or something like that...Hell, my B&M charges about $8 for regular RyJs

I was expecting more like $15/stick, given that the regular My Fathers are $10without the NY State Tax (75% of wholesale I think)...

It's $8 before NY taxes and yes they ship out of state.

My father has great production quality, but davidoff's is better. That's all I'm saying.

I doubt this will lead to further collaboration, as this is one of several sticks produced exclusively for Davidoff NYC by various brands. Sounds great though.

I completely agree and I am not a Davi fan. I find many sticks made at the My Father factory seem under filled with too loose of draws. One of the few times I use a punch instead of a cutter just to restrict the draw. They may not be underfilled but many do draw to easily for my liking.

This is the only issue I have ever come across on Pepin sticks... the loose draw and being underfilled. It's not too often for me thou, maybe 1 or 2 in a box, if unlucky.

Most of the sticks have superb construction. I have some Cabaiguans that are nearly flawless. I have some guapos 46 that seriously make me cry a little when I snip the cap off because they are so well rolled.

I'm guessing they have 1 or 2 bunchers that are inexperienced. After all, their production has increased dramatically in just a few years and it's bound to happen. Hopefully, if they stop growing production so fast these minor quality issues will disappear.

I also don't like the loose draw on most padrons either so maybe it is more an issue about me then the construction. I smoke mostly CC's and while I am doubtfull that there is more tobacco in them then Pepin's sticks they do usually have a tighter draw. It may not be an issue for most but it is for me. I have had many boxes that I would say over 50% were looser then I would like. That said it doesn't stop me from smoking them. Davidoff's in my mind are easily some of the best constructed cigars any. That said the flavour really doesn't work for me. I keep checking back in every so often in case my tastes change. Keep thinking to myself as I smoke "man this cigar sucks but the construction is amazing":crying: In the end it is all about the blend for me.

This. It may be a good stick but I will wait for them to hit the secondary market and buy them without NY taxes.

If anyone out of state decides to buy a box and is looking for a split I am in.
