The raised center section was like that in the original ice box (without the memorabilia). It was a drop panel that was insulated and had metal on it.

After tung oil and paste wax.
With the top open. The Spanish Cedar frame on the inside of the top fits into the opening when it's closed. It used to be made of oak, but the oak was rotted. Inside that frame I want to put art glass, or maybe a map, or cigar bands under glass.

This is an awesome project. One of my favorite that I have seen. I love the idea of the old ice box. I couldn't help but have the same idea when I saw an old safe.
