I will only use a soft flame butane (tasteless) lighter to light a pipe. I'll use matches, but it's just so much easier to use a lighter. I have a cheap soft flame/ torch lighter (never use a torch to light a pipe!) and the rest of the time I'll use a regular lighter (bic, etc.).
