• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Is my rolling plan reasonable?

Here's my plan of attack to familiarize myself with the character of tobacco. Is my plan sound? step 1: Roll the same dolls with a difference only in the wrapper. My first mold full (10) has a Brazilian Arapriaca wrapper. Mold 2 and 3 will be Ecudorian Ligero Shade Wrapper and CT1DW Maduro...

    Pics of Your Sticks

Here is a pic of my first batch using a mold and wrapper. I did a closed foot so the ends look a little ratty but I trimmed he dolls off before removing them from the mold. Still need to get a better cap.

    Is cigar glue even necessary?

Since you're so darned organized and efficient, how do you get your wrapper to lay flat? The you tube videos show spraying the rolling board and kinda sticking it down. My leaves were nowhere near floppy enough to do that. I ended up kinda stretching the leaf at the bottom, then holding it while...

    Is cigar glue even necessary?

I do that as well. When I was smoking wrapper only I glued the head for obvious reasons. That makes sense. When I roll a stick, after the binder is applied I will continue to roll it between my hands and the board before applying the glue to verify there are no soft spots. I believe it also...

    Cigar Molds Thread

Interesting. Thanks for the offer. What information do you need to encode the shape, what wood do you carve them from, and what Vitolas have you already encoded? I think your molds look fantastic on this thread, I just wasn't aware you were taking orders.

so winning the bet will require you to either slow down rolling or speed up burning. I vote the latter :)

    Cigar Molds Thread

WLT and LO have a smattering of parejo cigar molds. Is there a source that can provide a complete selection of all vitolas? Obviously they aren't making molds, they are purchasing from someone else.

    Is cigar glue even necessary?

I actually molded it 2 days. Turned it 90 degrees after the first day as a pro forma., since the marks were very slight. Also, I'm using a plastic mold so there is likely less moisture pulled out than with a wood form. Oh, I see. Yes, That's also how I light a cigar.

    Is cigar glue even necessary?

An allied question: I rolled up 10 dolls last night, placed them in the mold without glue and placed them under a heavy weight. When I apply the wrapper, is it important to roll them the same direction as the binder?

    Is cigar glue even necessary?

er.... toasting the edges? is that a thing? I have never seen that done in any of the videos I have watched. Please elaborate. I recently purchased a wallpaper seam roller and last night used it to flatten the thicker seams in the binder. When I pressed firmly I noticed the leaf slightly stick...

    New Flavor Wheel Flavors

If you're serious about a flavor wheel, (and I have reservations that you are) I would suggest each of your flavors be illustrated with ba stick that has presented that flavor note. And what the heck is the difference between nauseatingly gross and indescribably gross? is it the amount of...

    Is cigar glue even necessary?

I had a strange situation occur this weekend that I'd like to get some opinions on. I shared a home roll with a friend. Since I have not yet wrapped or capped my sticks, I've taken to adding a band of different colored tobacco at the head to indicate which end the fire gets applied to. Friend...

    Cigar Molds Thread

I just had my first mold delivered. Its plastic, 5.5" x 56 rg, 10 spaces. It was the closest to a Robusto that LO has in stock. I looked it up on a cigar size table. I believe its a robusto grande. Casing some leaf now. It's a bit bigger RG than I was looking for, but just by coincidence, the...

    How to avoid soft spots?

so, you're saying I *should* be able to smoke a stick with no issues with binder only. Yes?

    The Hurt Locker

I would be concerned with the foam soaking up moisture and growing mold, similar to florist foam. Check the spec. You want closed cell foam insulation board. That's what is used as insulation on flat roofs. Designed to not suck up moisture even in a wet environment.

What should I do with potential power outage?

My coolerdor sits in the basement at 68F/69RH for several months with no frige and no intervention from me, no matter how many times I open the lid. I would think if you want to be safe, the way to go is to add a larger volume of 2 way media to temper any fluxuations. Remember, a cooler is...

    How to avoid soft spots?

based on nothing more than what random ideas have come into my head: The binder holds the bunch together, The press sets the firmness and the wrapper holds the pressing shape. I have not yet pressed or applied a wrapper. I find my sticks all draw very loosely and need occasional relights. I...

Resource for comparison of cigar leaf

I have noticed that most tobacco used in commercial sticks is described by it's country of origin. Is it fair to say that the same plant grown in different tobacco growing countries will yield significantly different taste? Or is this merely an attempt by the blending houses to *generalize*...
