• BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

    Smoke one for Sam

brother, i feel for you. on wednesday i put down a buddy of 12 years, a cat named stitch, he was our first pet together, and the firstby my side whenever i had a bad day. the day you lost him sucks. SUCKS HARD. focus on the time you had with your dude. 11 years with sam, even if he ate a...

    Aging Questions...

cold is better than hot in ANY scenario with tobacco storage. that said, my understanding is that there is a microbial progression that happens during aging, partly aerobic, and when the oxygen is eaten up in the container partly anaerobic. any biological process like that should probably move...

Cigar Tar and how to get rid of it

DAMN that is a great nub, trackmeyer! try purging periodically, storing at a lower RH, and smoking slower. but, yes, a secondary cut CAN save you from a wet smoke.

    Pipe aroma/odor

used pipe tobacco is FOUL. cleaners and dottle (unburnt tobacco out of the bowl) should be disposed of ASAP. that said, pipes actually aren't bad. they DO smell of tobacco , but much less pungently, and it dissipates to a gentle and workable background note. kinda like a good tobacconist...

    Meerschaum Pipe Question

alcohol, VERY fine steel wool (000), a ton of pipe cleaners and Qtips, and some patience will clean a meer. DON'T soak it, DON'T water-log it 9or alcohol-log?), and always have a clean rag ready to wipe down after. then a LOT of bee's wax and heat. ALSO, james: you already have a meer? o(

    FRENCH LAUNDRY!

totally counts, brother. o) and a venue like that AIN'T the value buffet, stuffing yourself is NOT the point. leaving satisfied, however, IS. i do hope this memory stays with you for years, brother, and that the food was a vehicle to enrich your life. at that level, at that price, that IS...

    Brigham Pipe Filters

brigham "rock maple inserts". like the sav filters, but a hollow tube of rock maple that extends from shank into stem. allegedly "dries and cools" the smoke. they actually don't affect the flavors or textures at all, IMO. it's another widget to deal with, to be sure, but it seems to be a...

    Brigham Pipe Filters

brigham uses the maple dowel filters. they are fairly sturdy, and maybe six to twelve smokes, depending on what you're s owing, how long they can dry out, and how it affects your smoke (which is the biggest thing anyway...). also, never tried yet, but have heard some guys try cleaning them...

    Padron non - anniversary

padron londres or 2000, preferably maduro, when i can, and both overdeliver for their price. also, before anyone asks, padron Ks (and non-K-named Ks like the londres) age fantastically. a year or four is amazing on these sticks.
